In Kaohsiung City, an ambulance this morning was transporting a critically ill patient for emergency dialysis to the hospital when, due to the urgent situation, the driver left the vehicle without removing the keys. As a result, a woman quickly took the driver's seat and drove the vehicle for over 10 kilometers. The police used a tracking system to surround the woman and brought her back for investigation, charging her with theft and obstruction of official duties. The Fire Department stated that this is the first instance of an ambulance being stolen outside an emergency room, and they plan to enhance personnel training to prevent similar situations from occurring again. Fortunately, the ambulance sustained no damage, and the vehicle was later successfully recovered.

A ambulance belonging to the Xinxing squad in Kaohsiung City, was transporting a dialysis patient to the emergency room of a hospital in Zuoying District on the morning of the 5th. Due to the critical condition of the patient, the driver did not have time to remove the key, and within less than 30 seconds of leaving the vehicle, it was targeted by an ambushing woman. The woman quickly entered the driver's seat, drove the ambulance away, and traveled over 10 kilometers from Zuoying District. After receiving the report, the police used a positioning system to arrest the woman in Kaohsiung Port and took her back for investigation on charges of theft and obstructing public duty. This incident also led the fire chief to state that this might be the first time an ambulance was driven away from outside an emergency room in Kaohsiung.

The ambulance was outside the emergency room, and due to the patient's critical condition, the rear door could not be closed, so they hurriedly pushed the patient into the hospital. Unfortunately, in less than 30 seconds, the ambulance was targeted by a woman. The woman started the vehicle even before the rear door was closed and quickly left the scene. After receiving the report, the police swiftly launched a pursuit operation and ultimately found the vehicle and the woman in the Kaohsiung Port area, arresting her.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on the 5th, when, due to emergency rescue needs, the ambulance crew could not turn off the engine before entering the hospital. The ambushed 41-year-old woman, surnamed Cai, entered a civilian ambulance after getting out of a taxi, stayed there for a while, and then sneaked into the ambulance. The head of the Zuoying Police Station stated that after receiving the report, the police immediately reviewed surveillance footage and found that the vehicle was heading south on a major road in Zuoying. To date, it has not been explained why she was driving the ambulance, and she was arrested on-site based on theft and other charges.

The woman drove over 10 kilometers from Zuoying and was found about half an hour later in Gushan District. Police at the scene reported that the key was still in the vehicle. The ambulance crew member who was in the vehicle also came to assist with the investigation. According to the fire department's SOP procedures, ambulance crews usually remove the key when the ambulance is in service. The deputy captain stated that due to the urgent needs of the patient, the protocol was not followed, leading to the ambulance being driven away.

Although a rescue bag was lost in the incident, it was later returned to the Zuoying squad by a member of the public. In response to this incident, the fire department will further review and enhance training to prevent similar situations from happening again. The value of the brand new ambulance and its equipment amounts to 5 million yuan. Fortunately, this incident did not result in any losses, but the fire department will strengthen the training of relevant personnel to respond to emergencies.
