At 10:55 AM today, an accident occurred involving a fire truck overturning in Fanlu Township, Chiayi County. Two firefighters were returning to the station after executing a rescue mission when it is suspected that improper operation led to the fire truck overturning on County Road 130. Fortunately, the two firefighters were able to escape without injury. The fire truck was successfully lifted from the scene in the afternoon, and the cause of the accident is still under investigation. The police urge drivers to reduce speed when driving in narrow mountainous areas to prevent similar incidents.
This morning (5th) around 10:55 AM, two male firefighters from the Fanlu Fire Brigade in Chiayi County, after carrying out a rescue mission for a vehicle fire, lost control while driving the fire truck back to the station at 0.5 kilometers on Jia 130 Line in Fanlu Township. It is suspected that improper operation caused the truck to overturn while making a turn. Fortunately, both firefighters managed to escape uninjured, and the fire truck was successfully towed away from the scene in the afternoon.

According to police understanding, at around 10:05 AM that day, Xu (50 years old) from the Fanlu Fire Brigade of the Chiayi County Fire Bureau was driving the fire truck with a 35-year-old male team member surnamed He onboard, returning from duty when they passed through the Guotian section of Alishan Highway. This section is downhill and narrow, and it is suspected that an accident occurred while passing another vehicle, resulting in the truck accidentally falling into a bumpy area by the roadside. However, both firefighters were unharmed and not trapped. Since the fire truck itself weighs about 7 tons, plus equipment and around 2 tons of water, the total weight is about 10 tons. It is initially speculated that the truck may have slipped inadvertently while passing another vehicle, leading to the overturn. After subsequent handling, the fire truck was successfully towed away from the scene in the afternoon, and there were no casualties. Police investigation results show that Xu’s breath alcohol concentration was 0, and the detailed cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The Zhongpu Police Bureau urges, as the roads in the Zhongpu mountainous area are narrow with many curves, drivers must slow down when approaching curves to avoid traffic accidents.
