The game attracted 15,400 fans, with distinguished guests including Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai, who personally threw the ceremonial first pitch to kick off the game. After the renovations, Chengching Lake Baseball Stadium can now accommodate nearly 20,000 fans and has introduced a NT$50 student discount ticket to encourage youth participation in baseball. During the match, Zhang Zhaoyuan hit a walk-off hit, helping the Taiwan Steel Eagles win the game 4-3. The opening week's games offered free shuttle buses, encouraging the public to use public transportation to attend the games.

To enhance the facilities of the Chengqing Lake Baseball Stadium, the Kaohsiung City Government allocated a total budget of NT$376 million, which has been carried out in two phases since 2023. Before the start of this year's season, the renovation was completed, updating all stadium seats to over 18,500, with 54 restrooms, bullpens, player lounges, VIP rooms, entrances and exits on the first and second floors, lighting in hallways, fire protection systems, flooring in the underground parking lot, cheerleading performance stage, and the press room, among others, all fully updated, aiming to provide a better competitive and viewing environment for players and fans.

The Sports Development Bureau of the Kaohsiung City Government stated today (5th) that the opening game between the Taiwan Steel Eagles and the Rakuten Monkeys at the Chengqing Lake Baseball Stadium was very lively, with a total of 15,487 attendees, attracting many veteran fans as well as first-time baseball spectators. The guests present included the Mayor of Kaohsiung, the Chairman of the Taiwan Steel Group, the Chairman of the Taiwan Steel Eagles baseball team, the team manager, and the assistant manager, with the mayor throwing the first pitch, while other guests served as batter and catcher, adding luster to the second season opener in the Eagles' history and kicking off the entire event.

After throwing the first pitch, the mayor transformed into a Taiwan Steel fan to watch the game and stated that the city government is working hard to secure funding support from the Sports Administration of the Ministry of Education to provide a safe and high-quality sports environment for players and fans. A total budget of NT$375.95 million was allocated for the improvement project of the Chengqing Lake Baseball Stadium in both the first and second phases, carried out in stages. The first phase includes improvements to the indoor space on the first and second floors, the cheerleading stage and seating for spectators, as well as electrical, fire protection, and air conditioning systems; the second phase covers repairs to the third and fourth floors and updates to the seating for spectators.

This large-scale renovation aims to bring a different experience to players and fans, allowing everyone to enjoy the charm of baseball. Last year, the Taiwan Steel Eagles' first home game attracted over 16,000 fans, and this year the team welcomes its second season in the top league, with the Chengqing Lake Baseball Stadium reopening the outfield area after renovations, accommodating nearly 20,000 spectators. The game concluded with a walk-off hit by a player, leading the Taiwan Steel Eagles to victory with a score of 4 to 3.

To deepen its roots in Kaohsiung, the Taiwan Steel Eagles received support and recognition for its corner plan promoting the home opener this season, upgrading the event to version 2.0, integrating into the daily lives of Kaohsiung citizens, cheering on those who work hard and study, and bringing energy. Through various promotional activities, the connection with fans in the Kaohsiung-Pingtung area was strengthened, allowing them to feel the team's passion in their daily lives. After the event on March 29, a pre-opening event was subsequently held, attracting numerous fans to show their support.

As the home ground of the Taiwan Steel Eagles, the city government rolled out a student discount program, allowing students to watch games for just NT$50. With the new season of the Chinese Professional Baseball League starting, the home stadium for the Taiwan Steel Eagles began accepting reservations on March 20, with a total of 48 home games scheduled for this season, offering 9,544 student discount slots, which students can reserve online using a digital student ID card. Successful student reservations will enjoy a special price to enter the stadium to watch professional sports events originally priced between NT$300 and NT$400, experiencing the exciting atmosphere of live games.

For the three-day opening event, free shuttle buses will be provided at Weiwuying MRT Station and Zuoying HSR Station, and it is recommended to take public transportation.
