In response to the United States imposing a 32% tariff on Taiwan, President Lai Ching-te convened a seminar for information and communication technology companies at the presidential residence on the afternoon of the 5th. On the 6th, he will invite representatives from traditional industries and small and medium-sized enterprises for a second seminar. President Lai hopes to listen to the opinions of the industry and introduce the government's response measures to provide support for the industry and stabilize the economy. The participants unanimously agreed that planning is essential before taking action, and proposed to establish a reassuring plan for the industry and to conduct long-term strategic planning. Executive Yuan Premier Su Tseng-chang urged financial institutions to coordinate responses to stabilize market confidence.

This event aims to allow the industry to express its views and needs face-to-face, while the government hopes to provide maximum support to stabilize the economic situation.

According to reports, attendees commonly agree that negotiations should take place while the government holds leverage, and there is no rush to reveal specific plans. They wish to first propose an industry assurance plan to prepare for mid- to long-term strategic responses.

The spokesperson for the Presidential Office pointed out that to address global trade challenges, President Lai has convened several representatives from the information and communication industry for discussions and plans to continue listening to the needs and feedback from the industry. At the same time, the government will constantly update relevant measures to ensure the competitiveness of Taiwan's industries internationally and protect the country's economic interests.

During the meeting, the Premier also led a team to announce a corresponding assistance plan of NT$85 billion, focusing on stabilizing industry confidence in real-time, demonstrating the government's comprehensiveness and speed in its response measures.

Zhuo Rongtai subsequently convened financial leaders for discussions to assess the condition of the Taiwan stock market and the industry, ensuring that the government can maintain market stability amidst the constantly changing economic environment.

Industry representatives expressed their expectations for government assistance during the meeting, mentioning that during this difficult period, continuous observation of market dynamics and appropriate adjustments and response strategies should be implemented.
