U.S. President Trump recently announced a 32% high tariff on Taiwan. Keelung City Mayor Hsieh Kuo-Liang stated that next week he will hold an industry seminar with legislator Lin Pei-Hsiang to listen to the opinions of businesses and enhance guidance. In response to the impact of the tariffs, the Executive Yuan has proposed a subsidy measure of 88 billion. Hsieh emphasized that local governments need to actively respond and will integrate resources to maintain industrial stability and development, conducting risk assessments regarding the challenges faced and supporting local and overseas manufacturers. He urged continued attention to international circumstances to ensure the stability of citizens' lives.

The President of the United States recently announced the imposition of a high tariff of 32% on Taiwan, raising concerns among domestic industries. The mayor of Keelung stated that to listen to the opinions of manufacturers, he will hold a joint industry forum with legislators next week and strengthen support for local and overseas manufacturers.

Regarding the impact of tariffs, the mayor pointed out on social media that the central government should actively develop response plans and explain them to the public as soon as possible to cope with challenges in international trade negotiations, industry chain layouts, and stabilizing the Taiwanese stock market. He has requested the city government's economic development department to compile the challenges faced by Keelung's industries, such as order migration, rising costs, and tariff obstacles, while also assessing the impact of price fluctuations on residents' lives.

Keelung has two large industrial areas, Daguolun and Liudu, and the city government will do its utmost to maintain industrial stability and sustainable development, planning to assist local industries in responding to challenges in three ways:

• Establishing a communication and coordination platform by inviting manufacturers from Daguolun and Liudu industrial parks and legislators to attend the joint industry forum to gather industry opinions, propose substantial policy suggestions, and integrate central and local resources to achieve rapid response and stabilize industries.
• Conducting real-time assessments of industrial risks, specifically targeting export-oriented industries most affected, such as information and communication technology, electronics, manufacturing, and processing, to categorize risks and survey demands, which will serve as crucial references for future policy formulation and resource allocation.
• Enhancing support for local and overseas manufacturers, as some manufacturers in Keelung have established bases in places like Vietnam and Thailand. The city government will work through the economic development department, collaborating with central departments and legislators, to grasp the status of corporate operations and labor rights in real time, reflecting this to the central government and jointly formulating countermeasures.

The mayor emphasized that the city government will continue to monitor international trends and work closely with legislators, committed to protecting the stable development of Keelung's local industries to ensure the well-being of residents' lives. A legislator also stated that in the face of changing international circumstances, industries must take preventive measures in advance and cannot afford to wait.
