Recently, U.S. President Trump announced a high tariff of 32% on Taiwan, which has raised concerns among domestic industries. Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang stated that he will hold a joint industry seminar with legislator Lin Pei-hsiang next week to listen to manufacturers' opinions and strengthen support for local and overseas manufacturers. He emphasized that the city government is indispensable and has begun assessing the challenges faced by the Keelung industry to cope with the tariff crisis. Additionally, he plans to establish a communication platform and conduct real-time risk assessments to ensure the stable development of local industries. Lin Pei-hsiang also called for proactive measures to address international changes.

The Mayor of Keelung has stated that next week, a joint industry seminar will be held with legislators to listen to the opinions of manufacturers and strengthen support for both local and overseas companies.

In response, the Keelung City Government has a responsibility to enhance the measures against the tariff impact and has instructed relevant departments to summarize the challenges faced by Keelung's industries, including order relocation, rising costs, and tariff barriers. Additionally, an assessment of the potential impact of price fluctuations on the daily lives of citizens will be conducted.

Currently, Keelung has two major industrial zones, Dawulun and Liudu. Amid the current international political and economic turbulence, the city government will make every effort to maintain industrial stability and sustainable development, and will assist local industries in facing challenges from three aspects:

• Establishing a communication and coordination platform, planning to invite representatives from industrial zone manufacturers and legislators to hold a joint industry seminar next week to widely collect industry opinions, propose specific policy recommendations, and integrate central and local resources.
• Conducting an immediate inventory of industrial risks, categorizing and surveying the risks and demands for affected export-oriented industries such as telecommunications, electronics, manufacturing, and processing, to facilitate future policy formulation and resource allocation.
• Strengthening support for local and overseas manufacturers. Some manufacturers in Keelung have overseas operations, and the city government will work with central departments and legislators to monitor business operations and labor rights, and jointly develop response measures.

Moreover, the Mayor emphasized that the city government will continually monitor international developments and closely collaborate with legislators to ensure the stable development of local industries in Keelung, thereby safeguarding the stability of citizens' lives. In this regard, the legislators also expressed the necessity of responding to changes in the international situation, stressing that industries must prepare in advance and cannot wait.
