Insider / Lai Ching-te's
讀後心得
To respond to the tariff war with the United States, President Lai Ching-te and Premier Su Tseng-chang have recently held multiple meetings to gather opinions from the industrial and financial sectors. Lai Ching-te engaged in discussions with industry representatives at his official residence to talk about tariff countermeasures. Su Tseng-chang hosted a press conference to announce an assistance plan amounting to 88 billion NTD, focusing efforts on stabilizing industrial confidence. The business community unanimously believes that we should base ourselves in Taiwan and flexibly respond to the strategies of various countries, while still needing to observe the final decisions from the U.S. side.

In response to the significant impact of the "Trump tariff war," which has resulted in a 32% tax rate on Taiwan, the Presidential Office and the Executive Yuan have been intensively handling countermeasures over the past three days. President Lai Ching-te and Executive Yuan Premier Su Tseng-chang have collaborated and meticulously listened to the opinions of the domestic industry and financial sectors. Additionally, the preliminary conclusions from the first "Presidential Forum with Industry" have been announced tonight.

Presidential Forum with Industry

President Lai Ching-te invited representatives from the industry to the official residence to discuss strategies for the tariff crisis. To respond to the "reciprocal tariffs" promoted by the United States, Lai Ching-te held another meeting this afternoon at the official residence, inviting industry representatives for face-to-face discussions. The first ICT industry forum was held at 3 PM, with over ten corporate representatives gathering together. It is anticipated that tomorrow the focus will shift to traditional industries and small and medium-sized enterprises for the second forum, expressing their views and needs regarding the current market to the President and the Premier.

Regarding the "three-step response," Premier Su Tseng-chang led the administrative team in holding a two-hour press conference at the Executive Yuan on Friday, focusing on the impact of the U.S. "reciprocal tariffs" on Taiwan's industries and announcing an assistance plan of NT$ 88 billion, aimed at stabilizing industry confidence promptly. Meanwhile, all levels of the government are working together, and today they convened a meeting with relevant leaders from the Central Bank, Financial Supervisory Commission, Ministry of Finance, and others to report on financial measures in response to the upcoming market challenges.

On the afternoon of the 5th, President Lai Ching-te once again summoned industry representatives to the Presidential Office to communicate in detail about the response strategies. The industry representatives discussed their observations of the current market and topics requiring government assistance. In the preliminary conclusions of the first "Presidential Forum with Enterprises," all attendees agreed that it is essential to base their actions in Taiwan while looking toward the world. Although the response methods of various countries differ, including retaliation and compromise, each country's situation is unique, and the U.S. has not made a final decision yet, requiring continued observation. The business sector supports the government in negotiating based on the existing leverage, and there is no rush to reveal the plan, hoping to first propose a reassurance scheme for the industry before exerting influence.
