The Gongguan Roundabout has been a hotspot for traffic accidents in Taipei City for seven consecutive years. Mayor Jiang Wan-an has decided to dismantle the roundabout to enhance traffic safety. There are many commuters passing through the area, and violations of traffic rules occur frequently, with an average of nearly 5,000 riders being cited each year. Deputy Mayor Li Sichuan, while traveling in Portugal, observed the courteous driving behavior at local roundabouts, which left a deep impression on him. He mentioned that the aesthetic design of Portugal's cobblestone streets and colorful ribbons tied on bridges is worth learning from for Taipei City.

The Gongguan Roundabout has become the most accident-prone intersection in Taipei City for seven consecutive years. The mayor stated that although the demolition project is challenging, in order to ensure public safety, he has decided to overcome the difficulties to carry out the dismantling of the roundabout and the filling of the underpass. This roundabout, which gathers seven diverging paths, has always been a busy traffic area, and to reduce the accident rate, the mayor has decided to remove the roundabout facilities.

Recently, the deputy mayor, while traveling in Portugal, specifically observed the usage of local roundabouts and noted that drivers yield to each other and slow down while driving within the roundabouts, which left a deep impression on him. The area around the Gongguan Roundabout sees many commuters passing by every day and is equipped with overpasses and underpasses. Many unfamiliar riders enter the roundabout in violation of regulations, and on average, nearly 5,000 riders are penalized each year. Moreover, local residents have long considered the roundabout as a large roadblock, and it has become a focal point of controversy, leading the mayor to ultimately decide on its demolition at the end of March.

On social media, the deputy mayor shared that the decision to demolish the Gongguan Roundabout was made by the city government before his departure to Portugal. He paid special attention to the usage of the roundabout there and was impressed by the way drivers displayed yielding and slowed down while driving in the roundabout. Additionally, he also noticed that most streets in the area use stone pavement, and the construction team arranges stones of different colors to create locally unique patterns that are both beautiful and distinctive, which is worth learning from.

The deputy mayor also mentioned that many couples lock love locks on the Songshan Rainbow Bridge, but the weight of the locks affects the bridge's load-bearing capacity and needs to be addressed. During his trip, he observed that bridges in Portugal were decorated with ribbons, creating another beautiful scene that does not pose a weight issue, providing the city government with a new reference idea.
