Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim attended the opening ceremony of the Baosheng Culture Festival at the Baoan Temple. She faced criticism from netizens for sharing a photo of a runbing on social media, to which she responded that the photo was taken earlier and she did not pay attention to the timing of its release, resulting in misunderstanding, and she apologized. Hsiao Bi-khim emphasized that the government will actively respond to the newly announced tariff policies by the United States and adjust the procurement model for energy and raw materials to minimize the impact. At the same time, she called for a focus on the importance of jointly facing current international challenges.

Vice President 蕭美琴 participated in the opening event of the Baosheng Cultural Festival at the Bao'an Temple. Recently, due to the announcement of reciprocal tariffs by the US President, the international situation has been shaken, imposing a heavy 32% tariff on Taiwan as well. The government highly values and takes serious measures in response to this. However, on April 4th, 蕭美琴 shared a photo of a spring roll on social media, which sparked discontent among netizens. Today (April 5th), she stated that the photo was taken about a week ago, and she did not pay attention to the timing of the post and the changes in the international situation, which led to misunderstandings. She apologized for this.

蕭美琴 emphasized that the government is actively preparing for the next stage of negotiations with the US side, and is taking steps to adjust the international procurement model for energy and raw materials to respond to the current situation. In her speech at the "Baosheng Cultural Festival Opening Ceremony," she mentioned the recent public concern about changes in the international situation and noted the criticism regarding the spring roll photo she uploaded on social media. She explained that the photo was originally scheduled to be published before the Qingming Festival, to participate in traditional folk activities with the public, but she did not pay special attention to the timing, which resulted in misunderstandings. She deeply apologizes for this and hopes everyone can refocus on the common issues we face in addressing current challenges.

Regarding the new method of calculating tariffs announced by the US, she pointed out that this method is based on the trade deficits of various countries with the US. Last year, Taiwan ranked seventh in the US trade deficit, amounting to over 70 billion USD, which is higher than that of major trade partners like Japan and South Korea. The announcement of these tariffs indeed has a significant impact on Taiwan, and the government hopes to minimize this impact.

蕭美琴 mentioned that the government will address this issue from two aspects: first, actively preparing for the next stage of negotiations with the US to seek fair and reasonable treatment; second, facing the issue of trade deficits. From a medium- to long-term perspective, the government will review and adjust the current international procurement model for energy and raw materials and assist industries in their global layout to enhance the competitiveness of domestic industries to overcome current challenges.

She emphasized that as long as we strengthen our competitiveness and make Taiwan more irreplaceable, we can, in this difficult time, embody the spirit conveyed by the Baosheng Emperor, transforming into a Taiwan where good harvests and peace prevail.
