The movie stars Fumiya Takahashi and Nanase Nishino and has become a box office champion in Japan. Recently, the two main actors attended a gratitude event in Tokyo, where director Yoshihiro Nishimura expressed his thanks and praise to them, making them feel honored. The story is set in Sendai after the earthquake and depicts the emotional connection between an unemployed youth and the dog Tamamo, as well as the other traumatized individuals they encounter. The film will be released in Taiwan on April 25.

“The Boy and the Dog” is adapted from a novel that won the highest honor in Japanese literature, the Naoki Prize. The story revolves around a dog named “Tamon,” who spent five years traveling 3,000 kilometers from Tohoku to Kyushu in order to meet an important person, healing countless wounded souls along the way. The film stars rising male sensation Takahashi Fumiya and renowned actress Nishino Nanase, moving many viewers to tears in theaters, allowing the film to achieve the top box office rankings for new releases in Japan.

Recently, the two lead actors attended a thank-you event in Tokyo, where the German Shepherd playing the dog “Tamon,” named “Sakura,” was also present. Sakura brought a thank-you letter from the director, praising Takahashi and Nishino, which made both of them very happy. During the event, Takahashi and Nishino took letters out of Sakura's black bag, and Takahashi read the director's thank-you note aloud on behalf of everyone, which mentioned: “I hope you can continue to appear in films, thank you very much.” After receiving the director’s encouragement, Nishino expressed, “The director doesn’t speak much on set; he had said that only dialogue necessary for filming is needed, which sometimes made me self-doubt whether I was performing poorly, but receiving his words today really made me very happy.” Takahashi also added, “Being able to create and interpret this character with the director has been a beautiful and honored experience. I’m very glad to have received the director's affirmation.

The story reaffirms the essence of “The Boy and the Dog,” which is also familiar to Taiwanese readers, as its original work is by the well-known author Chih Hsing-chou. The plot depicts a dog named “Tamon” who, in order to meet an important person, quietly embarks on an adventure that creates a spiritual connection with many wounded and confused people. Producer Hirano Takashi, known for creating classics such as “The Bride of the Last Month of Life” and “I Just Want to Hug You,” began planning the film after reading the novel and collaborated with screenwriter Hayashi Yoshio, whose past works have received multiple awards. Director Sase Takahisa manages various dramatic works with a delicate style that meets the story's needs.

Hirano Takashi stated, “In the story, a group of spiritually wounded people find hope for rebirth through encountering a dog. Many people struggle to see light amidst the shadows of life; this film hopes to offer a glimmer of hope, allowing those in need to take a step forward.”

The plot is set in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, after the earthquake, where the youth Kazuma (played by Takahashi Fumiya) encounters the dog Tamon, who has also lost its owner. Tamon becomes an indispensable part of Kazuma and his family's life. However, due to family difficulties, Kazuma turns to a life of crime, and eventually, Tamon goes missing amidst the chaos. As time passes, Tamon reaches Shiga Prefecture and spends life with a woman, Miu (played by Nishino Nanase), who has a sad past. With Tamon's companionship, Miu gradually regains her peace. At this point, Kazuma returns to Shiga in search of Tamon. Initially, Miu holds hostility towards him, but with Tamon's presence, a spiritual dialogue emerges between the two; however, Miu's past pains still affect her. The film will officially premiere in Taiwan on April 25.
