“The Night Watchman of the Great Feng” is adapted from the popular novel of the same name, starring Wang Hedi and Tian Xiwei. The story revolves around Yang Ling (played by Wang Hedi), who accidentally travels back to ancient times while participating in a script-killing game, becoming Xu Qi'an of the Great Feng Dynasty. Xu Qi'an is charming and mischievous, yet exceptionally clever, skilled at solving cases. Using his modern knowledge and reasoning abilities, he successfully investigates a series of bizarre cases.
In the story, Xu Qi'an not only fights against the dark forces of the court alongside like-minded partners but also meets and falls in love with the innocent and naive Princess Lin'an (played by Tian Xiwei), developing a romantic relationship. Wang Hedi successfully portrays the hero's charisma and passion with a “bad boy charm,” and Tian Xiwei even praises him as “the chosen Xu Qi'an.” Their first-time collaboration showcases excellent chemistry, with several iconic scenes such as “waist hugs” and “intertwined fingers,” sparking heated discussions among fans.
During their first collaboration, Wang Hedi and Tian Xiwei had a very consistent impression of each other, describing that there was not much difference between them. Tian Xiwei described Wang Hedi as “honest, sincere, and brave,” and noted that he “doesn't have many bad intentions; he seems like a bad boy but is a bit foolish.” Wang Hedi mentioned Tian Xiwei’s big eyes, her energy, her remarkable appetite, and her strong empathy. There was a time when Tian Xiwei was in the makeup room crying while reading the script, which greatly surprised Wang Hedi.
There are several kissing scenes in the drama, especially the “fireworks kiss,” which has been warmly received by fans. Wang Hedi recalled that during filming, the director had high demands for the fireworks effect, reshooting to create a romantic atmosphere, while Tian Xiwei humorously pointed out that her nostrils turned black after shooting because the fireworks filled the set with smoke. Fans have praised these sweet moments.
Besides the detective elements, time travel is also an important theme of this drama. When asked what Xu Qi'an and Princess Lin'an would do if they traveled to the modern era, both immediately responded in unison, “Of course, we would go eat hotpot!” Their words reveal their “foodie” nature.
“The Night Watchman of the Great Feng” will premiere on April 4, airing Monday to Friday at 7 PM on Ai Er Da Comprehensive Channel across Taiwan.
