U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed National Security Agency Director Timothy Ho, a move that sparked strong dissatisfaction among Democrats. It is reported that Ho also served as the head of the Pentagon's Cyber Command, and the reason for this personnel change has not been officially clarified. Far-right conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer suggested on social media that she had influence over Ho's dismissal and criticized Ho for his connections with Trump’s critic Mark Milley. Democratic members of the Senate expressed shock and anger, accusing Trump's actions of being inappropriate.
According to U.S. officials and congressional members, President Trump abruptly removed Timothy Ho, the Director of the National Security Agency (NSA). Timothy Ho is also the head of the Pentagon's Cyber Command. These unnamed officials stated that high-ranking military officials were notified of Timothy Ho's dismissal on Thursday. The White House and the Pentagon have not explained the reasons for this personnel change.
On Friday, far-right conspiracy theorists appeared to imply on social media that they facilitated Timothy Ho's dismissal. Earlier reports indicated that after Trump's meeting with this conspiracy theorist, about six National Security Council staff members were dismissed, while several others were reassigned. The far-right activist accused Ho on social media of having connections with a retired Army general who is a critic of Trump, mentioning that Ho was personally selected by the general, leading her to believe that Ho should not hold a position in the Trump administration.
The activist did not provide evidence of any connection between Ho and the general. The general served as Trump’s chief military advisor from 2019 to early 2021, and their relationship subsequently soured. In a book, he described Trump as a "thoroughly fascist" figure. The activist also pointed out that all intelligence officials appointed by Obama and Biden seemingly lack integrity, calling for the dismissal of everyone left by Biden and Obama.
Democrats expressed strong dissatisfaction with Timothy Ho's ousting. The top Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee stated in a statement that he felt shocked and angry that President Trump dismissed this highly capable and accomplished military leader under the influence of a far-right conspiracy theorist. The top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee also criticized the dismissal, mentioning that the Trump administration had unintentionally included a reporter in an encrypted chat group regarding plans for airstrikes in Yemen due to the “Signal” scandal, deeming this behavior unbelievable.
Since taking office in January, Trump has undergone a significant reshuffle of high-level military personnel.
