Meanwhile, China is strengthening controls on rare earth exports, which are crucial for the high-tech industry. Additionally, Chinese customs has suspended imports of chicken from certain American suppliers due to the detection of banned substances. China has also placed 27 American companies on a trade sanctions or export control list and has launched antitrust investigations into multinational corporations. Despite the escalation of trade friction, military security dialogues between China and the U.S. continue. Experts have differing opinions on the future trajectory, believing that further observation of Trump's actions is needed.

The Chinese government announced on April 4th that it will impose a 34% import tariff on all products from the United States starting April 10th. This tax rate aligns with the reciprocal tariffs recently implemented by the U.S. on Chinese goods. At the same time, the Ministry of Commerce of China stated it would strengthen control over rare earth exports, which are key raw materials for computer chips and electric vehicle batteries. Regulated minerals include neodymium and its compounds, which have widespread applications in aerospace and defense. Another element, gadolinium, is used in magnetic resonance imaging equipment.

Additionally, the General Administration of Customs of China announced a suspension of chicken product imports from certain U.S. suppliers due to the discovery of furazolidone, a drug prohibited in China, in these products. Furthermore, high concentrations of mold were found in sorghum from some U.S. companies, and salmonella was detected in poultry bone meal. The Chinese government has placed 27 U.S. companies on a trade sanctions or export control list, with 16 companies banned from exporting “dual-use” items, including high-tech and logistics companies from the U.S. China has also filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization regarding tariff issues, accusing the U.S. of violating international trade rules with its reciprocal tariff measures.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce of China has initiated an antitrust investigation against multinational chemical giants and launched an anti-dumping investigation into imported medical CT tubes. Previously, China imposed a 15% tariff on U.S. coal and liquefied natural gas, while a 10% tariff was applied to crude oil, agricultural machinery, and large-displacement vehicles. The latest tariff measures will apply to all products made in the U.S.

Despite the escalating trade tensions between the U.S. and China, experts believe that the relationship between the two countries has not reached an overly severe level of tension. Since the inauguration of the new U.S. President, military officials from both countries have communicated for the first time on maritime military security issues, with talks aimed at reducing potential risks. Regarding China’s control over rare earths, personnel indicated that this might prompt Western countries to seek alternative supply chains. Economists have stated that both sides may renegotiate to reduce tariffs in the coming months.

Market experts indicated that while China’s response has been strong, attention must be given to Trump’s reaction, as any further retaliation could again impact market trends.
