President Lai Ching-te stated in a video that Taiwan will not retaliate with tariffs, and the commitment of businesses to invest in the U.S. will remain unchanged. Lai Ching-te revealed that Taiwan will refer to the U.S.-Canada-Mexico Agreement (USMCA) and negotiate with the U.S. to seek the possibility of "zero tariffs." Additionally, he emphasized Taiwan's resilience in exports to the U.S. and called on all sectors to work together to address future challenges. The government also proposed a support plan for the impacted industries and ensured continuous improvement of the investment environment to promote economic development.

The President of the United States has imposed a reciprocal tariff of 32% on Taiwan. President 賴清德 delivered a statement to the public today via video, emphasizing that Taiwan will not retaliate with tariffs against the United States regarding the "reciprocal tariff"; if companies align with national interests, their investment commitments to the U.S. will not change. 賴清德 stated that Taiwan will use the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement as a reference and will begin negotiations from "zero tariffs."

On the 6th, 賴清德 communicated with the public through a video regarding the U.S. "reciprocal tariff" policy, reaffirming that Taiwan will not retaliate with tariffs; as long as it aligns with national interests, the commitment of companies to invest in the U.S. will not change.

The spokesperson of the Presidential Office stated that 賴清德 convened more than a dozen industry representatives today to discuss countermeasures. 賴清德 pointed out that the recent imposition of tariffs by the U.S. on countries worldwide, with Taiwan facing a 32% increase, has profound implications for Taiwan, and the global economic and trade environment will undergo significant changes.

He mentioned that he appreciates the opinions from various sectors, and the government will incorporate them into decision-making. He analyzed Taiwan's trade situation with the U.S., noting that last year's export value reached 111.4 billion USD, accounting for 23.4% of total exports. From this data, it can be seen that Taiwan's economy possesses certain resilience and will need to respond appropriately to challenges in the future, with public-private collaboration to mitigate the impact.

賴清德 emphasized that Taiwan will make the U.S. aware of Taiwan's contributions to its economy and actively monitor global economic dynamics, strengthening Taiwan-U.S. industrial cooperation to enhance Taiwan's position in the global supply chain. He mentioned that five strategies will be adopted to cope with the U.S. tariff measures:

• Pursuing improvements in reciprocal tariffs through negotiations, forming a negotiation team that includes experts from various fields, and using the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement as a reference.
• Expanding procurement and investment in the United States, increasing investments based on the needs of various industries to deepen bilateral relations.
• Eliminating non-tariff trade barriers and resolving long-standing trade obstacles to facilitate smoother negotiations.
• Proposing support programs to assist affected traditional industries and small and medium-sized enterprises, and providing support based on specific needs.
• Initiating plans to listen to industry opinions and address issues in real-time, ensuring policies better meet practical needs.

Finally, 賴清德 stated that Taiwan will demonstrate resilience in the face of various challenges, and the government will work hand in hand with the private sector, hoping that all factions of the Legislative Yuan will support this to open up broader economic avenues.
