U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross stated that President Trump’s new round of 10% import tariffs will take effect this week and that there is "no room for negotiation." This policy targets several major trading partners, aiming to protect U.S. manufacturing and national security, and has already triggered fluctuations in global financial markets. Ross emphasized that the Trump administration's goal is to rebuild domestic strength to address the unfavorable trade situation of the past few decades. Republican Senator John Barrasso also supports this policy, calling it a significant shift in U.S. economic policy.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Lutnik recently stated on a television program that President Trump’s new round of tariff policies will be officially implemented within this week. He pointed out that the 10% tariff targeting all countries has no room for negotiation and emphasized that President Trump is serious about this policy and will proceed as planned.

According to reports, this reciprocal tariff plan involves several countries with a high proportion of exports to the U.S., and goods from these countries will face higher tax rates. The news immediately impacted global financial markets, with U.S. stocks experiencing their worst week since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, as concerns about an economic recession rose. Trump called on Americans to “hang in there,” while Lutnik defended Trump’s position, stating that this policy aims to ensure U.S. manufacturing, supply chains, and national security.

Lutnik stated that the United States has relatively insufficient productivity in core industries such as shipping, pharmaceuticals, and semiconductors, and must protect its own interests. He reiterated that this policy cannot be postponed any longer, and the president’s stance is clear: this is the moment for the U.S. to regain control over its economic destiny. He further mentioned that for decades “the entire world has been taking advantage of us,” and now is the time to show a firm stance.

Additionally, a Republican U.S. Senator from Wyoming also expressed support on the program, stating that this wave of tariff actions reflects a significant shift in U.S. government policy and paves the way for realizing Trump's economic blueprint. This blueprint not only includes the current tariff policies but also combines the extension and expansion of the tax cuts promoted in 2017. He emphasized that Congress is working to “build a strong, healthy, and growing economy,” and tariffs will be one of the important tools.
