Kuomintang legislator Niu Hsu-ting pointed out that the United States' trade pressure on Taiwan is not limited to tariffs but also involves non-tariff trade barriers and currency manipulation, which are the main risks for the future. He reminded the government to respond cautiously to U.S. demands to avoid harming domestic industries. In addition, Hsu Yu-chen criticized President Lai Ching-te's policies, such as not retaliating and not restricting TSMC from going to the U.S., describing this as "surrender talks to the U.S." He stated that this would affect Taiwan's security and economy, calling on President Lai to convene a national meeting to engage in dialogue with all political parties.

KMT legislator Niou Su-ting stated on the 6th that the United States' pressure on Taiwan regarding trade is not limited to tariff issues; deeper issues include "non-tariff trade barriers" and "currency manipulation," which are sensitive areas that need special vigilance in the future.

The United States is about to impose a 32% punitive tariff on Taiwan. In response, the Executive Yuan has proposed an NT$88 billion relief plan, and cross-party discussions will be held on the 7th to address this challenge. Niou Su-ting pointed out that the U.S. has previously viewed the "labeling of U.S. pork" as a non-tariff barrier, but this is closely related to Taiwan's food safety, and thus cannot be compromised; if the government fully abandons its currency policy, it will severely damage the international competitiveness of export industries.

She emphasized that in the face of U.S. demands, a cautious response is necessary, and one should not easily make commitments just to accommodate negotiations; otherwise, domestic industries and livelihoods will pay a greater price.

Also from the KMT, legislator Hsu Yu-chen frankly pointed out that President Lai Ching-te's proposal of not retaliating, not restricting TSMC’s operations in the U.S., and expanding procurement from the U.S. is essentially a "surrender talk to the U.S." that will instead hollow out Taiwan rather than help it. She cited the viewpoint of The Economist, saying that as the U.S. is able to produce more advanced semiconductors domestically, the incentive for U.S. defense of Taiwan will gradually decrease, increasing the risks faced by Taiwan.

Hsu Yu-chen mentioned that the tariff war initiated by Trump will affect the global economy, and Taiwan's supply chains and youth employment will become the biggest victims. She criticized the government for continuing to purchase natural gas, arms, and agricultural products to cater to the U.S., claiming that this "spending money for peace" approach will only empty the national treasury without yielding real negotiation leverage. President Lai should immediately convene a national policy meeting to engage in dialogue with all parties, showcasing true leadership.
