【Madam Lan's Reception Room (Part 2)】Is being broad-shouldered and stout for Zhang Xiaoquan a blessing or a curse?
讀後心得
Zhang Xiaoquan showcases powerful explosiveness in his new film "Qi Zi," with fight scenes reminiscent of Korean star Ma Dong-seok. He hopes to break free from the father roles he has played for several years in order to explore more diverse types of roles, as he approaches his 30s. Although he is often reminded by his agent to lose weight, his love for boxing, combined with his naturally muscular build, has made him popular among fans. Zhang Xiaoquan states that the entertainment industry is full of contradictions and challenges; in the past, he was shy and struggled to express himself, but now he is better able to understand himself through the characters he portrays. His sister also dreams of entering the entertainment industry and is amazed by her brother's success.

Chang Hsiao-Chuan performed outstandingly in the new film "The Apparatus," with a strong physique and impressive fight scenes that inevitably remind one of the Korean action star Ma Dong-seok. His action sequences in the film are quite intense; however, during an interview, he appeared noticeably slimmer, with a clear facial contour, looking young and healthy overall. He stated: "I have been playing father roles for several years, and this time I want to try different characters, hoping to return to a version of Chang Hsiao-Chuan closer to 30 years old." Currently, there are not many action films in Taiwan, nor are there many stars who excel in action scenes, but Chang Hsiao-Chuan's explosive performance in "The Apparatus" is surprisingly impressive, reminding one of Liam Neeson's strong image in the "Taken" series, as well as Ma Dong-seok's mix of brutality and warmth in his acting style. In response, Chang Hsiao-Chuan laughed and said, "I like Ma Dong-seok... but I don't want to become him." When mentioning the term "tiger back and bear waist," he showed a surprised expression, revealing that he is often urged by his agent: "Can you slim down a bit?" He feels wronged because he loves boxing, and naturally has more developed shoulder and arm muscles. While beloved by fans, he appears too eye-catching in certain artistic films when wearing a shirt; however, on the other hand, his filming of action movies brings joy to his fans.

Chang Hsiao-Chuan believes he is naturally broad-shouldered and has developed arm muscles, in "The Apparatus," he transforms into the strongest dad, embarking on a story of revenge. In fact, when everyone sees his noticeably thinner appearance, it is a result of a rigorous weight loss process. "I treat myself like a car, eating healthy meals as if refueling." He loves food, so he often feels bad during the weight loss period, but he truly put in the effort. For a time, he followed a ketogenic diet, which not only improved his body shape but also boosted his athletic performance; however, he had to give it up due to acne on his face, as being a star inevitably comes with the impact of appearance. In reality, for Chang Hsiao-Chuan, working in the entertainment industry is filled with contradictions, both fun and shocking. In the past, he was always shy in public and wished to hide behind the scenes, yet he is fond of this industry, which is so different from his life. "I used to be very self-focused, only concentrating on things I liked, but at the same time, I was afraid of this industry!" The contradictions over these years have caused Chang Hsiao-Chuan to have continual inner conflict with his acting. When he pushes himself to the limit, a kind of counterforce emerges, as when playing roles he cannot identify with, and when he feels his heart is about to collapse, there is always a shout of "Ah, to hell with it," followed by an all-out effort to perform, making everything else unimportant.

Fate is always wonderful; Chang Hsiao-Chuan's sister also aspires to the entertainment industry. When she learned that her brother was selected to act, she was very surprised and said, "It should be me who becomes a star; how could it be him?" However, fortunately, over the past 25 years, through the trials of contradictions, Chang Hsiao-Chuan has become more composed in handling situations. For example, in "The Apparatus," when faced with the immense sadness of his character, he can easily get into character, delivering a natural and moving performance. Even if he feels out of sorts during some filming, although he knows others may not be able to tell, he feels nervous inside; at that moment, he can only relax and completely trust his co-actors and director.
