This policy has triggered market turmoil, with U.S. stocks losing over $6 trillion within two days. Investors supporting Trump warned that greater crises would ensue if tariffs are not reduced. Raimondo insisted that this is to close loopholes for certain countries and denied using AI to generate tariff lists.

The U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Ross, dismissed claims regarding the use of artificial intelligence to generate the tariff list and explained why tariffs would be imposed on "Penguin Island." Recently, U.S. President Trump announced that comprehensive tariffs would be levied on imported products from over 180 countries and regions, including uninhabited islands that are home only to penguins. Ross explained the reasons for including these islands in the tariff scope during an interview.

The new tariffs announced by Trump led to investors losing over $6 trillion (approximately NT$198.6 trillion) in the U.S. stock market over two consecutive days. Hedge fund managers and wealthy supporters of Trump pointed out that without adjustments to these tariffs, the U.S. stock market would face a more urgent crisis on Monday. However, the economic team of the Trump administration claimed that no one could escape the high tariffs set to take effect starting the 9th. Ross stated on a television program, "Tariffs will be implemented as scheduled; this is not a joke."

• Online, there has also been concern about the Australian territories of Heard Island and McDonald Island, which have a resident population of zero but are home to four species of penguins that will face a 10% tariff.
• The Democratic leader of the federal Senate expressed dissatisfaction with Trump, believing that imposing tariffs on penguins while taking no action against the Russian president was unjustified.
• Ross defended the tariffs on these two islands that have only penguins, claiming it was to close "loopholes" in "shipping passage" exploited by countries like China.

Additionally, reports speculate that the Trump administration may have generated the list of items facing tariffs using artificial intelligence, but Ross denied this, pointing out that many countries were not included on the list.
