“Malaysian Softcake” resembles thick crepes, with a soft and chewy texture, wrapped with scallion eggs and youtiao for added flavor, and is one of the best-sellers for years. The third-generation leader of Hua Chen Food shares the popular product “Formosa Hand-Roasted Pancake,” which hides a fantastic story of Taiwan-Japan friendship. Founder Xu Shun-Weng was born in Kandeng, graduated from the food science department, worked in a flour factory, and later set up a stall with his wife selling shaobing and youtiao. After resigning to focus on running the breakfast shop, Xu Shun-Weng used his strong desire to learn and explore, developing various snacks, even receiving guidance from the president of a Japanese senbei company, gaining access to treasured recipes.

Hua Chen insists on using local ingredients and contracts with farmers, establishing itself as a time-honored gift brand in Donggang. The Japanese president not only taught techniques and provided machinery but also sent people to Taiwan for training, using baking designs that mimic century-old European kilns, producing hand-roasted pancakes with over 30% nut content, whether it be peanut, sesame, or pumpkin seed, with a flavor that grows more fragrant the more you chew. The store also has various Donggang limited packaging products, making them ideal as gifts.
