The Dajia Mazu pilgrimage team passed through the Minsheng underground tunnel in the early morning, during which a street conflict occurred, and even someone threatened with an air gun. The police arrested a male suspect with the surname Zhang and referred him to the court under the Social Order Maintenance Law. The chairman of Zhenlan Temple, Yan Qingbiao, urged everyone to exercise restraint and avoid fighting. Additionally, in the Changhua area, there was an incident where a drunken man tried to snatch an umbrella during the pilgrimage activities, but the police quickly brought the situation under control. The itinerary of Dajia Mazu proceeded smoothly under police security.
The Dajia Mazu palanquin and the procession passed through the Minsheng Underpass, which is known as a "first-class war zone," early yesterday morning.
Two days after the Dajia Mazu pilgrimage, street conflicts broke out, and even someone threatened with a "gun." The police subsequently apprehended a man surnamed Zhang, who was initially determined to be holding an air gun, which has no lethal capability. Zhang stated that he took this action to avenge a friend who was beaten, and the police transferred him to the court for violating the Social Order Maintenance Act.
The chairman of the Zhenlan Temple expressed that it is a good thing for Dajia Mazu to go out and hoped that everyone would protect one another. Regarding the fighting incident, he urged everyone to exercise restraint, or it would affect the activities.
At around 11 PM last night, when Dajia Mazu was about to leave the temple to head towards Jiayi's Fengtiangong for the procession, a man in white suddenly "intruded" into the formation and quarreled with the members of the Zhenlan Temple Maitreya group, even swinging his fists at their helmets. The police stated they would investigate the man in white, while the Maitreya group member who was attacked expressed that they do not wish to pursue legal responsibility.
The police reviewed the relevant footage and found another man suspected of threatening with a gun during the incident. They apprehended the man surnamed Zhang who was holding the gun and confiscated an air gun, transferring him to the court for punishment under the Social Order Maintenance Act.
Late the night before last, during the procession into Changhua, a suspected drunk man attempted to snatch a sun umbrella and was ultimately beaten by two men. The Changhua police subdued the two on the spot and took them back to the police station for processing.
Dajia Mazu only passed through the Minsheng Underpass around 1 AM; in the past, this area was often regarded as a "first-class war zone," with frequent temple parade conflicts. Yan Qingbiao specially requests local figures for assistance to ensure a smooth itinerary before the pilgrimage activities.
In recent years, the Changhua police have strengthened security measures, and this year they even set up long lines of barriers to clear the road, allowing the Mazu procession to pass through the underpass in less than five minutes.
