In Houlong Township, Miaoli County, there is a stunning coastal highland attraction known as Cape No. 1. The county government's Cultural Affairs Bureau is making every effort to secure funding to plan the development of a coastal corridor that stretches from Cape No. 1 to the Baishatun Gongtian Temple in Tongxiao Township, turning it into a linear tourist destination.
This project involves an investment of over 400 million NT dollars, connecting locations such as Cape No. 1, the Guokang Tunnel, and Cape Paradise to the Baishatun Mazu Cultural Park through five sub-projects, forming a diverse tourism corridor to attract more visitors.
The highland of Cape No. 1 in Houlong Township offers breathtaking views due to its unique topography and location facing the Taiwan Strait. In recent years, the county government has also sought to include Zhunan Township and Houlong Township as designated coastal tourism areas at the county level. By leveraging the unique charm of Cape No. 1, it connects with the nearby Guokang Tunnel and Cape Paradise, along with Miao 41 Line leading to Qinghai Gong and Shanbian Mazu, making this area a diverse tourism corridor that integrates natural scenery, history, and religious culture.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau has applied for nearly 300 million NT dollars in subsidies from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications' Tourism Bureau, in addition to self-raised funds, bringing the total project budget to 450 million NT dollars for the "Heart of the Sea Hills - Baishatun Sanctuary" project. Furthermore, the county government is working with the Houlong Township Office to promote improvements to tourism facilities at Cape No. 1, which include the widening of Miao 33 Line and Miao 41 Line, as well as seeking to establish a green energy exhibition center through the Ministry of Economic Affairs' Energy Administration, aiming to transform Cape No. 1 and its surrounding areas into a diverse recreational area.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau plans to integrate scenic spots along the route within three years, including the tourism development plan for Cape No. 1's Heart of the Sea Hills and the centennial Guokang Tunnel, the improvement plan for coastal tourism facilities from Baishatun to Cape No. 1, the sustainable tourism promotion plan for the Houlong Hills, the tourism industry enhancement plan for the Baishatun Mazu Cultural Park, the integrated marketing promotion plan for the coastal tourism corridor, and the intelligent travel future - digital tourism marketing plan, among five sub-projects.
