Chairman of Chunghwa Telecom, 簡志誠, announced the expansion into Tainan to establish an AI computing power center, providing one-stop AI services for small and medium-sized enterprises. The first data center is expected to debut in the second quarter, incorporating cross-domain generative AI applications. Chunghwa Telecom is enhancing data centers (IDC) into AI computing power centers (AIDC) to meet the explosive demand for AI applications. At the same time, 簡志誠 emphasized the collaboration with AI leader NVIDIA, aiming to build a high-performance AI ecosystem to seize market opportunities.
Jian Zhicheng showcased the AI application capabilities of Chunghwa Telecom, planning to establish a computing power center in Tainan. With the rapid growth of AI (artificial intelligence) applications and a market value surpassing NT$1 trillion, Chunghwa Telecom is preparing to vigorously expand into the AI market in two directions. Data shows that Chunghwa Telecom is providing comprehensive AI services tailored to the future needs of small and medium-sized enterprises, and upgrading its data centers to AI computing power centers (AIDC). The first server room is expected to be operational in the second quarter in Yongkang, Tainan, and will collaborate with the Chunghwa Telecom Research Institute on cross-disciplinary applications of generative AI. Jian Zhicheng described this server room, dubbed the "Shaolin Temple of Technology," as having outstanding value and emphasized that its advantages far exceed those of competitors.
At the Smart City Expo held in Nangang, various companies showcased their AI applications and prominently displayed slogans. Particularly at Chunghwa Telecom's booth, the Qing Dynasty's Emperor Qianlong transformed into an AI guide, demonstrating how AI imaging technology can identify illegal vehicles, clean street garbage, and address noise issues, thus displaying similar application scenarios as mentioned by Chairman Jian Zhicheng's “AI for all, AI applications reshaping various industries.”
Prior to this exhibition, Chunghwa Telecom had already held a Technology Day to showcase its AI models in management and customer service, as well as its five major application strengths. Data indicates that in response to the AI wave, Chunghwa Telecom is proactively adjusting its resources and has decided to pursue AI computing power profits in two directions. One aspect is upgrading its IDC (data center) to AIDC and providing computing power leasing through public cloud data storage; the other aspect is the Chunghwa Telecom Research Institute's investment in the development of generative AI applications.
According to Jian Zhicheng, Chunghwa Telecom expanded its computing power significantly last year, further joining the ranks of AI chip development, and recruited dozens of AI research and development talents. The first AIDC server room is planned to be operational in Yongkang, Tainan in the second quarter, aiming to provide new AI business computing power leasing, allowing Chunghwa Telecom to transform from a traditional telecom company into a technology enterprise.
Regarding the transformation from IDC to AIDC, Jian Zhicheng pointed out that AIDC is like a supercomputer, equipped with numerous CPUs, GPUs, powerful power and cooling systems, and high-speed networks to process vast amounts of data with strong computing power, executing complex algorithms and becoming the core of AI computing. As competition in the domestic AIDC market intensifies, Jian Zhicheng stated that Chunghwa Telecom is not afraid of challenges, as its target customers for AIDC are small and medium-sized enterprises, and it is actively deepening cooperation with AI leader NVIDIA, ensuring that it does not miss any investment opportunities from NVIDIA in Taiwan.
He is confident about his company's AI application layout, believing that "the technical leader of the AI ecosystem is indeed the Chunghwa Telecom Research Institute. This year's Technology Day is merely a starting point, and we will expand the international market in partnership with more collaborators in the future." Facing the AI business opportunities, Jian Zhicheng expressed his confidence.
