Chunghwa Telecom is responding to the "AI Smart Island" policy and is leading the industry in seizing AI business opportunities. Currently, its IDC business holds a market share of 70% domestically, far surpassing its competitors. Chunghwa Telecom's General Manager, 林榮賜, stated that the upgraded IDC will quickly meet AI demands and collaborate with the government to support finance, healthcare, and small and medium enterprises. The Chairman, 簡志誠, mentioned that Chunghwa Telecom Research Institute will provide comprehensive AI application services and plans to deepen cooperation with AI leader NVIDIA to ensure access to chip resources. To address power supply issues, Chunghwa Telecom will utilize all-optical network technology to improve energy efficiency, ensuring decentralized power utilization across various locations.
In response to the national policy of "AI Smart Island," Chunghwa Telecom has taken the lead in the telecom industry to layout the AI one-stop opportunity. According to data, Chunghwa Telecom Group's IDC (data center) business has reached a 70% market share in the domestic market, clearly ahead of other competitors. The general manager of Chunghwa Telecom further pointed out, "The upgraded traditional IDC can quickly meet customer demand for AI (artificial intelligence). At the same time, with the government's promotion of sovereign AI development, the government, financial industry, medical institutions, and small and medium-sized enterprises can upload data through our services." In addition to gradually upgrading IDC to AIDC (computing center), the chairman of Chunghwa Telecom plans to release the company's internal resource advantages, allowing the research institute known as the "Technology Shaolin Temple" to showcase its strength and provide a one-stop service for AI applications. "The strength of this 'Technology Shaolin Temple' cannot be matched by other industry players," the chairman confidently stated. In fact, the AI models developed by Chunghwa Telecom's research institute have successfully entered the government, financial, and manufacturing sectors, "The next goal is to expand to customers using AIDC," senior management revealed. However, for Chunghwa Telecom, which aims to seize the AI computing power market, the chairman is very clear about the importance of acquiring AI chips, stating that Chunghwa Telecom will actively engage in deep cooperation with AI leading manufacturers and will never miss investment opportunities in Taiwan. One major challenge facing Taiwan is power supply. A technology expert pointed out, "The computing center itself is a major power consumer." With multiple IDCs, Chunghwa Telecom has a stronger competitive advantage in this area. "We will rely on the research institute's technology to seek solutions for reducing energy consumption and heat dissipation, and utilize all-optical network technology to enhance energy efficiency, connecting high-speed fiber optic networks through distributed data centers to better utilize local power and avoid power concentration in a single location," the general manager stated.
