Chunghwa Telecom Chairman Jian Zhicheng announced that the company will enter Tainan to establish its first AI computing power center to meet the future AI demands of small and medium-sized enterprises. The plan includes upgrading the existing data center into a computing power center and integrating generative AI applications to enhance the company's competitiveness in AI business opportunities. Jian Zhicheng stated that the technological level of this center will surpass that of its peers and will showcase multiple AI application scenarios, such as identifying unauthorized vehicles and environmental monitoring, demonstrating Chunghwa Telecom's innovative capabilities.
Jian Zhicheng showcased the strength of ChungHwa Telecom in AI applications, with plans to establish a computing center in Tainan next. With the booming development of artificial intelligence (AI) applications, ChungHwa Telecom, with a market value exceeding one trillion, has decided to take a dual approach to aggressively seize the AI market. Our investigation revealed that ChungHwa Telecom is focusing on the future needs of small and medium-sized enterprises, planning to provide comprehensive AI services and upgrade its data centers to AI computing centers (AIDC). The first data center will be operational in the second quarter in Yongkang, Tainan, and will integrate with the ChungHwa Telecom Research Institute to cross over into generative AI applications. Chairman Jian Zhicheng described this data center, referred to as the "Shaolin Temple of Technology," as highly valuable and stated that it is unmatched by other competitors.
At the smart city exhibition held in late March, various companies showcased their highlights, with booths prominently displaying AI application slogans. The ChungHwa Telecom booth was particularly eye-catching, featuring the Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty as an AI tour guide, employing AI imaging technology to not only detect illegal parked vehicles but also capture litter and noise on the street, demonstrating various application scenarios of "AI for all, AI applications reshaping various industries."
ChungHwa Telecom is transforming and expanding its computing capabilities. Even before the smart city exhibition, ChungHwa Telecom held a Technology Day to showcase its AI models for management and customer service, along with five major application capabilities. Our investigation found that ChungHwa Telecom sees the potential of AI and, as an industry leader, has decided to integrate resources and enter the AI computing market in two ways, in line with the government's promoted "AI Smart Island" policy. On one hand, it will upgrade its existing IDC (Data Center) to AIDC (Computing Center), combining public cloud data storage and computational power rental, while also collaborating with the ChungHwa Telecom Research Institute to develop generative AI applications.
