The captain of the Cyber Crime Investigation Team, Li Bingyou, stated that the team recently uncovered a fraud group led by a suspect with the surname Jian. This group impersonated multiple investment companies to lure victims into downloading fake investment apps, defrauding them of over 12 million yuan. The police launched a joint crackdown operation, arresting 19 suspects, and they have been referred to prosecutors for investigation under the Organized Crime Prevention Act and other laws. To prevent fraud, the police have launched a "Fraud Prevention Dashboard" website, providing information on fraud techniques and related information to enhance public awareness of fraud prevention.
The Telecommunications Investigation Team of the Criminal Investigation Bureau's Third Team received intelligence and discovered that a fraud group led by a suspect with the surname Jian was impersonating multiple investment companies, luring victims to download fake investment platform apps. After login, victims were guided to engage in stock trading, new stock bidding for ETFs, and borrowing stocks for long-term investment, followed by couriers posing as employees to gain the victims' trust and hand over cash in person. The third investigation team initiated an investigation and formed a special task force with the Kaohsiung City Criminal Investigation Division and the Gangshan Branch, reporting to the prosecutor for direction in the case.
Since December 2024, the special task force has conducted three rounds of crackdowns, capturing 19 suspects, including those with the surnames Jian and Chen. Preliminary investigations revealed that there were over 10 victims, with the fraud amounting to approximately 10 million New Taiwan Dollars. This case is being forwarded for investigation under the Organized Crime Prevention Act, Criminal Code for aggravated fraud, and Money Laundering Control Act.
The police urged that fraud crimes pose a significant threat to public property safety and that fraudulent methods continue to evolve with the times. A newly established "Anti-Fraud Dashboard" webpage has been launched, allowing the public to access it through keyword searches or by visiting the 165 website. This dashboard not only statistics the most common fraud methods and fraud data from various counties and cities but also provides commonly used fraud scripts, techniques, and related cases to help the public grasp the latest fraud information and enhance their anti-fraud capabilities.
