Although it is still in the early stages of development, this innovative concept opens new possibilities for the future of smartphones.

According to patent data released by the United States Patent and Trademark Office on March 27, 2025, Google is developing a brand new wireless charging technology that plans to embed "charging coils" directly under the smartphone screen, allowing the screen to also transmit power, and it can even help charge mobile phones or headphones wirelessly through the screen!

This patent is titled "Wireless Charging Through a Display," with application number 18294508. The patent describes that Google plans to hide the wireless charging coil beneath the device screen, achieving the innovative technology of transmitting power through the screen. Traditional wireless charging requires the mobile phone to be closely adhered to the charging pad, making screen operations inconvenient. The concept of this patent allows the smartphone screen to become a medium for receiving or transmitting power, eliminating the need to flip the phone when charging, which enhances convenience and reduces the risk of screen wear.
