Highlight 1: Huang Teng-Hui and Li Hsing team up to solve the triangular dilemma of ex-convicts and stepfamilies
Huang Teng-Hui plays the ex-convict "Yang Jiu-Ru," who finds himself in a stepfamily, experiencing a completely different reality as a father of three. In the drama, he feels a strange yet familiar emotion when accepting Li Hsing's children from her previous marriage. Fortunately, Huang Teng-Hui's love for children and his habit of supporting underprivileged kids allow him to wholeheartedly give love to these non-biological children.
Highlight 2: Support from four prisons across Taiwan, with 60 extras undergoing significant transformations
"Nine-Ru Family" tells the story of ex-convicts, and actors Huang Teng-Hui, Li Yun-Ching, Wu Ling-Shan, Huang Kuan-Chih, Kao Shan-Feng, and Lin Dao-Yu changed their appearances for their roles. Li Yun-Ching, to deeply portray a character addicted to drugs, cut his hair short for the first time since 2007, marking a major breakthrough for his character. The prison scenes are an important part of the series, filmed with legal permission at four prisons across Taiwan, using only sixty extras, all of whom were given buzz cuts to achieve the desired visuals.
Highlight 3: Cai Chang-Hsien tackles a role of a person with disabilities for the first time
Cai Chang-Hsien plays "Ah Hong," who has an underdeveloped left arm, and found it very challenging to wear a prosthetic limb during filming in hot weather. He expressed that this is his first challenge of playing a role with disabilities, and both the physical and psychological nuances were quite difficult. During filming, the underdevelopment of his left hand made him uncomfortable, and he often had to tie his left hand behind his back, but his interactions with Huang Teng-Hui were very natural and in sync.
Highlight 4: Huang Kuan-Chih challenges a fierce character, inspired by a slapping coach
Huang Kuan-Chih plays the gang character "Ah Hao," whose background is very different from the character's experiences. He recalls that every time he plays a role that requires ferocity, he thinks of a coach from his high school table tennis team. During filming, he felt pressure but also found it a challenge, especially since he could not use profanity in the dialogue, making the portrayal of the character even more challenging.
Highlight 5: Chen Jian-Ning serves as producer, F.I.R + Wu Du-Yu creating music
Chen Jian-Ning serves as the producer and collaborated with Xiao Yu to create the opening song, theme song, and ending song. To integrate different generational musical perspectives, Chen Jian-Ning asked Xiao Yu to use divergent creativity and ensure a richer musical worldview. The theme song "I Know" is performed by Hsiao Hung-Jen, with lyrics closely tied to the plot, providing a strong emotional resonance.
Highlight 6: The entire series consists of five chapters, exploring choices of opportunities and fate along with Easter eggs
