The Economic Development Bureau pointed out that in the face of the increased tariffs from the United States, Taichung's export-oriented manufacturing industry will be hit the hardest, especially for end products exported to the United States and Europe.

According to currently available data, there are more than 300 relevant industries in Taichung, and most businesses primarily export their goods, with a significant proportion exported to the U.S. and Europe. This leads to varying degrees of impact across industries. For example, Taichung is the center of Taiwan's machine tool industry, and according to data from relevant industry associations, Taiwan's total machine tool export value is expected to be around $2.218 billion in 2024, with the U.S. being the second-largest export market, with exports reaching $341 million, accounting for 15.4% of total exports. Regarding key components, exports to the U.S. account for about 7% of total export volume. In addition, Taichung houses 70% of Taiwan's hand tool industry, with the total export value of Taiwan's hand tools estimated at $3.78 billion in 2024, and the proportion of exports to the U.S. is about 50%, approximately $1.89 billion.
