U.S. President Trump initiated high tariffs, and the global reactions vary. Taiwan, Vietnam, and Cambodia opted for a softer response, while China and Canada retaliated with counter tariffs. Recently, the European Union also decided to impose retaliatory tariffs on $28 billion worth of U.S. goods, emphasizing that further measures in the future are not ruled out. The EU's list includes various U.S. products, and meetings will discuss response strategies to encourage the U.S. to return to the negotiating table.

The President of the United States, Trump, has launched a tariff war on a global scale, prompting Taiwan, Vietnam, and Cambodia to choose a softer stance under pressure. In contrast, countries like China and Canada have decided to implement "retaliatory tariffs" in response. According to the latest news, the European Union has also decided to impose retaliatory tariffs on $28 billion worth of U.S. goods, and it does not rule out the possibility of additional tariffs in the future to counteract America's aggressive behavior.

Trump's high "equal tariffs" have shocked the world, with Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te announcing that there will be no retaliatory tariffs against the United States; instead, Taiwan will increase its purchases and investments in the U.S. Countries like Vietnam and Indonesia have also adopted similar flexible strategies. On the other hand, China and Canada have chosen a tough policy, launching retaliatory tariffs against the United States, demonstrating their determination to confront Trump.

Recently, the EU decided to impose retaliatory tariffs as high as $28 billion (approximately NT$9,273.46 billion) to counter Trump's extortionate actions. Reports indicate that the EU has presented a list to its 27 member states, which includes U.S. meat products, grains, wine, timber, clothing, and household goods. There are differing opinions among member states regarding whether U.S. "bourbon whiskey" should also be on the list, with key wine-producing countries like France and Italy concerned that this could lead Trump to retaliate with more tariffs on EU alcoholic beverages.

Regardless, the trade ministers of the 27 EU countries will meet on April 7 in Luxembourg to discuss countermeasures against Trump's tariffs. An EU diplomat stated that this move is intended to demonstrate the EU's solidarity and pressure the U.S. to return to the negotiating table. If negotiations fail, the EU is also determined to launch a comprehensive counterattack. Currently, negotiations between the EU and the U.S. have not reached a consensus, and the $28 billion retaliatory tariffs are expected to be voted on April 9. If a majority of countries agree, the measures will take effect on April 15, and there may be more retaliatory actions introduced one month after the initial measures are implemented.

An EU diplomat mentioned that this is a dilemma; if the response to the U.S. is too harsh, it might lead to an escalation of the trade war; however, if the stance is too soft, it may fail to compel the U.S. back to the negotiating table.
