In Hualien, an 8-year-old boy was attacked by a neighbor's pit bull in front of his home, resulting in severe lacerations on his calf that required 16 stitches. The boy's father stated that the child's injuries were serious and he was taken to the hospital immediately. This pit bull is not the first to bite; it has previously attacked neighborhood cats on multiple occasions, resulting in the death of some cats. Neighbors are angry at the dog's owner's attitude and blame the animal control department for ineffective handling, which has led to the recurrence of similar incidents. The animal control department stated that they will impose penalties for the attack.

A pit bull in Hualien recently bit an 8-year-old boy. Last month, there was also an incident in Taipei where a pit bull bit a person, leading to the owner being fined 200,000 NT dollars, and the animal control department decided to seize the dog. Unfortunately, a similar incident occurred in Hualien, where an 8-year-old boy was walking in front of his house when the neighbor's pit bull suddenly lost control, lunged at him, and bit him severely, causing serious lacerations to his calf that required 16 stitches after being taken to the hospital.

According to reports, the boy's father stated that the child's injuries were very serious and immediately took him to the hospital for treatment. "I carried him to the emergency room, and I felt immense pain; after all, this wound is truly horrifying." The incident took place in Tongmen Village, Xiulin, Hualien. When Mr. Yeh inquired with the dog's owner, he was met with a combative response, criticizing his attitude and mentioning that there have been multiple similar biting incidents in the village, yet the animal inspection office took no action, allowing the dog to remain outside.

This pit bull is not a first-time attacker; on March 21, 2024, it had bitten a neighbor's cat while being walked, and soon after, another cat was attacked and ultimately died despite rescue attempts. The owner of the cat that was killed stated, "Just in our household, two of our cats have been killed by their dog, and nearby dogs and cats have also been bitten. It often chases and attacks; it is truly very cruel."

On the 2nd of this month, this pit bull attacked the 8-year-old boy again. Neighbors checked the surveillance footage and found that whether the owner was walking the dog themselves or sending a friend to do so, this pit bull or a medium to large dog was not on a leash or wearing a muzzle. Despite having reported to the Hualien animal inspection office in August 2024, no fines have been issued to date. Mr. Ma criticized the administrative efficiency of the animal inspection office as being too slow. The Hualien animal inspection office responded, stating that they would consider classifying this dog as an aggressive breed and taking action regarding this incident.
