President 賴清德 recorded a video in the evening to introduce five strategies in response to the 32% tariff imposed by the United States on Taiwan. He emphasized that the government will cooperate with the private sector and hopes that the Legislative Yuan will support these efforts. 賴清德 pointed out that while Taiwan has a significant trade share with the United States, over 80% of exports still go to other countries, indicating that the economy is resilient. The five major response strategies he proposed include: negotiating with the U.S. on tariffs, expanding procurement and investment, supporting affected industries, formulating medium- to long-term economic plans, and listening to industry needs to promote the continued development of Taiwan's economy.

In response to the U.S. tariff policy, President Lai Ching-te recorded a video in the evening to report on the government's five countermeasures to the public. Lai emphasized that in the face of challenges, the government will cooperate with the private sector and hopes that the Legislative Yuan will support measures across party lines to promote the development of Taiwan's economy.

Lai pointed out that the U.S. has imposed a 32% tariff on Taiwan under the pretext of "reciprocity," which will have a significant impact on our economy. Various countries have already begun to take response measures, and a dramatic change in the global economic and trade situation is anticipated. Taiwan's economic resilience remains strong, and as long as appropriate countermeasures are in place, the impact can be minimized. He urged the public not to panic.

To address the U.S. tariffs, Lai proposed the following five strategies:

• Strategy One: Negotiate to improve reciprocal tariffs. A negotiation team has been established, which will use the U.S.-Canada-Mexico Agreement as a reference to strive for "zero tariffs."
• Strategy Two: Provide timely support and assistance to traditional industries and small and medium-sized enterprises affected by the impact, helping them to transform and upgrade.
• Strategy Three: Propose a medium- to long-term economic development plan, expand external cooperation, strengthen industrial integration, and promote Taiwan's upgrade and transformation toward a smart and sustainable economy.
• Strategy Four: Promote Taiwan's national economic development strategy, incentivize investment, relax regulations, and assist businesses in staying and increasing their investments in Taiwan.
• Strategy Five: Launch an industry listening tour to stay informed about market demands, promptly resolve issues, and ensure that policies meet actual needs.

Lai called on the public, stating that throughout its history, Taiwan has faced numerous challenges but has turned difficulties into opportunities, demonstrating economic resilience. He emphasized that the government and the private sector will work together to forge a broader economic path.
