Councilors from the Kuomintang expressed concerns about leachate contamination of water sources and called for the establishment of a monitoring mechanism. An independent councilor criticized the lack of preparedness and urged accountability. The Environmental Protection Bureau Chief has apologized for the fire incidents and mentioned that they will no longer import municipal waste in the future and will enhance resource recycling advocacy.

The deputy mayor stated that three commitments have been made to the local community: no more food waste will be allowed into the landfill, resource recovery materials will not be admitted except during the national clearance period, and there will be continued monitoring of leachate sampling, with a switch to storage management and the addition of infrared monitoring equipment.

The Hu-Tou Mountain Kuei-Chi landfill experienced a major fire again on February 4, with Kuomintang councilors criticizing that this has nearly become a yearly routine, and they demanded the release of the fire investigation results along with a specific waste removal plan and timeline. He and fellow party members expressed concerns that leachate from the landfill could contaminate nearby water sources, calling for the establishment of monitoring and management mechanisms, as the environmental park already has corresponding wastewater management equipment.

Independent councilors stated that the acrid odor from the large fire was unbearable, emphasizing that insufficient preparedness for emergencies led to the fire, and they demanded accountability for the incident. Together with Kuomintang councilors, they believed that recycling efforts rely on the moral conscience of citizens and urged the establishment of a reward system to mitigate the risks at the resource recovery center. Moreover, it was suggested that if the landfill no longer accepts food waste, it should be renamed as a recycling center.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) councilors mentioned a self-help committee formed by 12 village chiefs, calling for the city government to strengthen communication with local communities and defending the firefighters who responded to the blaze. The newly appointed head of the Environmental Protection Bureau adopted a humble approach, first apologizing to the citizens and then detailing short-, medium-, and long-term plans, including zoned management, adding infrared monitoring, and establishing storage operation areas. He indicated that the fire was triggered by the mix-up of lithium batteries and high-pressure containers during the national clearance period. The burned areas have been sealed off, and no recycling materials will be accepted post-disaster. In the future, the plan is to implement nighttime entry and next-day removal methods, and groundwater quality monitoring results are normal, with internal wastewater being recycled to ensure it does not leak outside.

The head of the Environmental Protection Bureau also mentioned that multiple approaches will be taken to enhance recycling classification education, such as trialing Tuesdays and Fridays as safe recycling days focused on recycling waste batteries and high-pressure containers to avoid mixing issues.
