A pit bull in Hualien recently bit an 8-year-old boy. This pit bull has previously attacked other animals, and the owner did not have it on a leash, causing panic among the surrounding residents. The local animal control agency stated that they will handle the incident, but the father expressed dissatisfaction with the administrative efficiency.

Following this, a similar incident was reported in Hualien, where an 8-year-old boy was suddenly attacked by a neighbor's out-of-control pit bull while walking in front of his home, causing severe lacerations to his calf, and he later received 16 stitches at the hospital.

The boy's father stated that the child's injuries were quite serious, and he took him to the hospital for treatment immediately, expressing, "It's really heartbreaking to see the wound." The incident occurred in Tongmen Village, Xiulin Township, Hualien. When Mr. Yeh asked the dog's owner about the attack, the owner responded rudely, claiming that many people in the village had been bitten and that the Animal Inspection Office had not taken any action, allowing the owner to continue to let the dog out.

It is understood that this pit bull is not a first-time offender. As early as March 21, 2024, it had already lost control and bitten a neighbor's cat, which subsequently died from its injuries less than six months later. The cat's owner stated, "We have had two cats attacked and killed by their dog, and the neighbor's dog has also attacked, this is truly cruel."

On the 2nd of this month, the pit bull attacked the 8-year-old boy again. Neighbors reviewed surveillance footage and discovered that the dog was not leashed or muzzled, whether it was being walked by its owner or by a friend. Although a report was made to the Hualien Animal Inspection Office in August 2024, no punishment has been imposed so far, resulting in the recurrence of similar incidents. The owner, Mr. Ma, criticized the administrative efficiency of the Animal Inspection Office as being too slow. The Hualien Animal Inspection Office stated that it will categorize the dog as a dangerous dog and impose penalties.
