The Dajia Mazu pilgrimage team had a conflict early the day before yesterday as they passed through the Minsheng Underpass, where some people swung their fists and threatened others. The police arrested a man holding an air gun and sent him for legal action under the Social Order Maintenance Act. That evening, a man in white broke into the formation, which led to arguments and fighting. The chairman of Dajia Mazu urged everyone to exercise restraint to avoid affecting the pilgrimage activities, and the Changhua police also increased security forces to ensure the safety of the procession.
The Dajia Mazu's ceremonial palanquin and the procession team passed through the Minsheng Underground Tunnel, known as a "first-class battle zone," in the early hours of yesterday. Just two days into the Dajia Mazu pilgrimage, there were street clashes, with some even brandishing "firearms" to intimidate others. Police apprehended a man involved in the incident, and after preliminary judgment, it was determined that the air gun posed no lethal threat. The man stated he acted to defend a friend who had been beaten, and the police subsequently transferred him to the Taichung District Court for violating the Social Order Maintenance Act. The chairman of the Zhenlan Temple expressed that the Dajia Mazu's outing is a joyous occasion and hoped everyone could coexist peacefully, urging everyone to "stop fighting," or it would affect him.
Around 11 PM on the evening of the 4th, during the Dajia Mazu's pilgrimage to the Chiayi Fengtiangong, a man in a white shirt suddenly entered the procession and got into a verbal dispute with members of the Zhenlan Temple's Maitreya group, even throwing punches and striking a safety helmet. The Dajia Police Bureau stated they would investigate the man in white, while the member from the Zhenlan Temple's Maitreya group expressed "no desire to pursue legal responsibility." The police reviewed relevant footage and found that another man was suspected of brandishing a gun to threaten others. Ultimately, they apprehended a man with the surname Zhang, who was found in possession of an air gun, and he was transferred to court for punishment under the Social Order Maintenance Act.
Late the night before, the Dajia Mazu pilgrimage team entered Changhua and passed through the Changhua Minsheng Underground Tunnel early yesterday morning. Before reaching the tunnel, on the Ziqiang Road section in Changhua City, a suspected drunk man attempted to snatch an umbrella but ended up being beaten by two men. The Changhua police immediately subdued the two and brought them back to the police station for processing. The Dajia Mazu procession finally passed through the Minsheng Underground Tunnel around 1 AM yesterday, an area previously known as a "first-class battle zone," where incidents of attempts to snatch the palanquin were not uncommon. Before the pilgrimage event, Yan Qingbiao usually requests local leaders to assist in ensuring a smooth itinerary. In recent years, Changhua police have increased security forces and set up long rows of barricades this year to ensure smooth traffic, allowing the Mazu pilgrimage team to pass through the tunnel in less than five minutes.
