In the Tianwei Township of Changhua County, the production of chrysanthemums accounts for 80% of the national total. However, due to the impact of weather, the seedling loss is estimated to be around 30%, resulting in a decrease in this year's production, with prices expected to rise. Wu Zhengxian, the secretary-general of the agricultural association, pointed out that people looking to purchase flowers for Mother's Day should place their orders as early as possible. Currently, the farm gate price has reached 8 to 9 Taiwan dollars per flower, significantly higher than the previous years' 5 to 6 Taiwan dollars. The agricultural association stated that this year, the retail price of the chrysanthemums will remain at 20 Taiwan dollars each, but due to insufficient production, prices are still likely to increase.

The production of carnations in Tien Wu Township, Changhua County accounts for more than 80% of the national total. However, due to climate impacts, there was approximately a 30% loss during the seedling period, resulting in a decrease in this year's production, with expectations that prices will continue to rise. With Mother's Day approaching, the carnation season has also begun, presenting significant challenges for farmers in Tien Wu Township.

A representative from the farmers' association stated that due to unstable weather, the cultivation rate of carnations did not meet expectations, impacting the initial production. Moreover, although the seedlings cultivated later were not damaged, their slow growth may prevent them from meeting market demand, especially during the important Mother's Day period.

He added that the primary cultivation of carnations needs to start preparing the mother plants in July of the previous year, take side shoots in October, and then undergo approximately five months of cultivation before being ready for cutting. Farmers with many years of experience in flower planting pointed out that frequent climate changes in recent years have made it difficult to sell carnation seedlings, and even if seedlings can be found, their quality is often poor, leading to further losses.

This year, the planting area in Tien Wu Township is about 25 hectares, still making it a major production area in the country, so the decrease in production will inevitably affect market prices. The current farm gate price has risen to 8 to 9 NT dollars per stem, compared to 5 to 6 NT dollars during the same period in previous years, showing a significant increase, with expectations that prices will only rise closer to Mother's Day.

The farmers' association indicated that the price of carnations will remain unchanged at 20 NT dollars per stem this year, but due to insufficient production, they recommend that everyone place orders early with the association or flower farmers to avoid missing out on purchasing opportunities.
