The chairman of Chunghwa Telecom, 簡志誠, announced that in response to the rapid development of AI applications, the first AI computing power center will be established in Tainan, upgrading data centers to meet the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises. The center is expected to be operational in the second quarter and will incorporate cross-disciplinary generative AI applications from research institutions. Recently, Chunghwa Telecom showcased several AI technologies at the Smart City Exhibition, emphasizing its leading position in the industry.
Jian Zhicheng demonstrated the strength of Chunghwa Telecom in AI applications, planning to establish a computing center in Tainan. With the rapid development of AI, Chunghwa Telecom, whose market value has exceeded trillions, is preparing to actively expand the AI market in two directions. Our investigation shows that Chunghwa Telecom provides comprehensive AI services for the future needs of small and medium-sized enterprises, upgrading its data centers to AI computing centers (AIDC). The first machine room will be operational in the second quarter in Yongkang, Tainan, and will integrate the interdisciplinary resources of the Chunghwa Telecom Research Institute to invest in generative AI applications. Chairman Jian Zhicheng stated that this facility, known as the "Shaolin Temple of Technology," has a high technological content that cannot be matched by competitors (such as National Taiwan University and FarEasTone).
During the smart city exhibition held in late March, major companies showcased elite technologies, with booths demonstrating AI applications visible throughout the exhibition. At Chunghwa Telecom's booth, the Qianlong Emperor from the Qing Dynasty transformed into an AI tour guide. Using AI imaging technology, it can not only check for violations from vehicles but also monitor garbage and noise on the streets, which is exactly the practical application scenario of "AI for all, AI applications transforming various industries," as mentioned by Jian Zhicheng.
Even before the smart city exhibition, Chunghwa Telecom had already held a technology day event, showcasing management and customer service AI models and its five major application strengths. Our investigation indicates that as a pioneer in the industry, Chunghwa Telecom is planning to integrate its resources in response to the government's "AI Smart Island" policy, seeking greater AI computing power business opportunities. On one hand, it will upgrade its IDC (data center) to AIDC (computing center), renting out computing power in conjunction with public cloud data storage, while the Chunghwa Telecom Research Institute will work on the development of interdisciplinary generative AI applications.
