A Malaysian man, NG, flew to Taiwan on an Evergreen Airlines flight last November. Due to his nicotine addiction, he smoked an electronic cigarette in the economy class seat, which led to the flight attendants intervening and reporting the matter to the police. The Taoyuan District Prosecutor's Office charged him for violating the Civil Aviation Act. Additionally, a dual-nationality woman also triggered a smoke alarm during the flight by smoking, prompting police to intervene and investigate. The related electronic cigarettes were seized, and a summary judgment was requested.

A Malaysian man, while traveling to our country on an EVA Air flight last November, was found smoking an electronic cigarette in the economy class seat due to a craving. According to the prosecution by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office, the man violated the Civil Aviation Act. Seventy-five minutes before the flight landed, he was smoking in his seat on the EVA Air plane, which was discovered by a flight attendant who warned him and subsequently notified the Aviation Police Bureau. After the investigation, the prosecutor charged him for violating the Civil Aviation Act.

Recently, a Japan Airlines flight departing from New Chitose Airport was subjected to a routine inspection upon arriving at Itami Airport, during which flight attendants found cigarette butts in the restroom and immediately notified the police. The police boarded the aircraft to investigate, which led to all passengers being unable to disembark and having to wait on the plane for the police inspection before they could leave.

Additionally, in February of this year, a China Airlines CI23 flight departing from California had a woman with dual nationality of Taiwan and the United States who hid in the restroom to smoke an electronic cigarette due to cravings. Unfortunately, the smoke alarm went off, and ultimately, the case was prosecuted for violating the Civil Aviation Act.

The prosecutor's indictment states that the Malaysian man took EVA Air flight BR228 to Taiwan on November 25, 2024, for a business trip. The flight took off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 3:30 PM, with a flight time of 4 hours and 55 minutes. Although he was aware that using devices that interfere with flight and communication was prohibited during the flight, he nonetheless smoked an electronic cigarette at 6:50 PM in seat 60B by the aisle in economy class, where he was stopped by a flight attendant. Based on the investigation results, the prosecutor believes that the man violated the Civil Aviation Act and has confiscated his electronic cigarette, requesting a simple judgment for sentencing.

Reminder: Smoking is harmful to health.
