Coincidentally, the fishing vessel Chuan Chang Long 168 from Suao, Yilan County, also caught a black tuna weighing about 200 kilograms yesterday. If it passes the review, it will become the "first tuna of Nan'ao" this year. Last year's first tuna from Pingtung was sold for NT$10,300 per kilogram, with a total auction amount reaching NT$3,103,000.

According to the announcement from the Pingtung County Government regarding the "2025 Pingtung Black Tuna Cultural Tourism Season," the first auctioned black tuna must meet several criteria, including the fishing vessel must have the qualifications to catch black tuna, it must be a northern black tuna, weigh over 180 kilograms, be caught in waters near Taiwan's coast, be tagged, be a live fish at the time of capture, and it must report to the Donggang Fisheries Radio while the notification date must meet the effective date of April 1, among other regulations.

The secretary-general of the Donggang Fishermen's Association stated that the captain of "Mao Feng Xiang" celebrated his 32nd birthday on April 5 and caught this male black tuna at around 11 PM on the 5th in the southeastern waters of Taiwan. This good news became his best birthday gift, and the fishing vessel is planned to return to Donggang at noon on the 7th. Zheng Yu-Chen pointed out that currently, the captain's visual estimate is 210 kilograms, but the official final weight needs to be confirmed at the auction; the weight condition for inspection must exceed 180 kilograms, which will be verified by the inspection team of the fishermen's association, and the final weight will not be announced on the inspection day.

At the same time, the secretary-general of the Suao Fishermen's Association revealed that good news arrived from the Lanyang Fisheries Radio around noon yesterday, indicating that the first tuna of Nan'ao is about to be announced. The Suao vessel Chuan Chang Long 168 caught a live black tuna in the waters at 25 degrees 4 minutes north and 123 degrees 59 minutes east, visually estimated to weigh about 200 kilograms. The fishing vessel immediately reported to the fishermen's association and is expected to arrive at Nan'ao harbor to unload fish at 3 AM this morning. The ship owner stated that the captain and crew faced significant challenges while fishing at sea, but they finally achieved their wish. Although the waiting felt long, they were overjoyed to hear the good news from her husband.
