A forty-two-year-old man drove his jeep to the intertidal zone of the Daan Sand Dunes in the Daan District of Taichung City for fun yesterday at noon, but encountered rising tides that trapped the jeep on the sandbar. Firefighters and coast guard personnel received the report and immediately launched a rescue operation. Fortunately, the man was unharmed.
The Taichung City Fire Bureau received the report at twelve forty-five, stating that a vehicle was trapped in the intertidal zone of the Daan District, and promptly dispatched three ambulances and five personnel from the Daan division. The rescue was led by the captain of the Daan division.
When the firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a van stuck in the intertidal zone of the Daan Sand Dunes, about two hundred meters from the shore. At one seventeen in the afternoon, a firefighter waded through the water and reached the stranded man, with the water depth up to his calves. After efforts to bring the man back to shore, he was conscious and did not have any visible injuries; he felt fine and refused medical transport.
