The Yamaha Ladies Open Katsuragi, with a total prize of 100 million yen, held its final round on April 6 at the Katsuragi Golf Club's Yamana Course in Shizuoka Prefecture. The 37-year-old Aichi player Lala Anai and South Korea's Mi-jeong Jeon finished the regular rounds tied with a score of 13 strokes under par, leading to a playoff. Lala Anai secured a birdie on the first hole of the playoff, defeating her opponent and claiming her sixth win on the women's Japan Tour.
On the final day of the competition, Lala Anai started with a one-stroke lead and quickly made a birdie on the opening hole. After securing her second birdie on the fifth hole, she had a mediocre performance in the following holes until she made another birdie on the fifteenth hole, finishing with a score of 70, 13 strokes under par, and a total score of 275 to tie for first place. Mi-jeong Jeon made consecutive birdies on the third and fourth holes and added two more birdies on the fifteenth and seventeenth holes after the turn, ultimately scoring a blemish-free 68, also 13 strokes under par, tying for first in the regular rounds, prompting both players to return to the eighteenth hole for a playoff.
Lala Anai commented, "On the last hole of the regular round, I originally thought Mi-jeong Jeon would make a birdie, but she made a par instead. As a fellow competitor, I could feel her emotions at that moment, which is also why we ended up going to a playoff. I told myself I had to seize this opportunity." She recalled winning at Katsuragi in a playoff two years ago, saying, "That memory is still fresh, so when I had 64 yards left for my third shot, I didn't think too much and chose to go for it." Ultimately, Lala Anai used a 58-degree wedge to hit the ball to one meter from the hole and confidently made the putt for a birdie, achieving her sixth victory on the Japan Tour.
On the final day of competition, the average age of the leading group was 39.3 years. The three players felt a long-lost sense of tension. "I really enjoyed the slightly tense yet comfortable atmosphere. Most of the conversations during the competition were about the course," Lala Anai mentioned.
