The 2025 LIV Golf League will kick off in the Asia-Pacific region, followed by its first event in the United States. The spotlight is on Chilean player Joaquín Niemann, who has performed exceptionally well over the past year, becoming a champion in multiple tournaments. Niemann will be participating in the Augusta event for the sixth time this year, aiming to surpass his previous best performance. Another highlight player is Sergio García, who led the Fireballs GC team to win several team championships and plans to challenge for a four-peat. Other past champions participating include famous players such as Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson.
The 2025 LIV Golf League kicks off with four Asia-Pacific series events in Riyadh, Adelaide, Hong Kong, and Singapore, followed by the highly anticipated U.S. swing this week, starting at the famous Trump Doral Resort Blue Monster Golf Course. A total of twelve LIV stars are preparing for the Miami LIV event leading up to next week's tournament. The pre-tournament spotlight is focused on the "Chilean Kid," Joaquín Niemann, who won the Mayakoba LIV event and the Jeddah LIV event at the same time last year. This year, he secured personal championships at the Adelaide and Singapore events in the first season, showcasing the keen insight of Augusta National Golf Club for granting him a wildcard for two consecutive years.
At the age of twenty-six, Niemann claimed his second PGA Tour title at the Genesis Invitational in early 2022, and then chose to join the LIV Golf League in June of that year. Although he narrowly missed winning the year-end number one title last year, eventually losing to Spanish star Jon Rahm, he has regained form this year, once again demonstrating his strong capabilities. Despite the impact of the PGA Tours ban, Niemann has participated in eight and ten non-LIV events over the past two years, winning the Australian Open and the Saudi International, which is why he currently maintains his position at eighty-fourth in the world rankings.
Next week marks Niemann's sixth visit to Augusta in his career, where he has successfully advanced for the past four years, with his best finish being tied for sixteenth in 2023 and tied for twenty-second last year. To date, in the twenty-two major tournaments he has participated in, he has not yet made it into the top three but has the chance to compete in all four majors this year.
Sergio García has become one of the highlights of the LIV Golf League in the past year! The forty-five-year-old Spanish star experienced three disappointing playoff losses until he finally won the individual and team championships at the Andalusia LIV event last July. His end-of-year ranking even soared to third place, and he recently secured two championships at the Hong Kong event. It is noteworthy that García's team, Fireballs GC, has won team championships in Adelaide, Hong Kong, and Singapore consecutively, and this week they will attempt to challenge for a fourth straight win. As the captain, García donned the green jacket in 2017, allowing him to return to Augusta every year.
Other past champions who will also compete in the tournament include Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Phil Mickelson, Charles Howell III, and Bubba Watson. Additionally, Cameron Smith, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and Tyrrell Hatton have qualified in other ways.
