In the Xitun District of Taichung, "我家飯糰" is a popular local rice ball shop. Although it is not widely known, it is loved by residents. The store offers three options: purple rice, white rice, and germinated rice, paired with over ten different toppings and a special spicy anchovy sauce, allowing every customer to create their own unique rice ball. In addition to rice balls, handmade soybean milk and rice milk are also available. The environment is clean and hygienic, making it suitable for bringing children to choose their favorite toppings. The store is located at No. 393, Chongqing Road, and its operating hours are from 8 AM to 11 AM.
In the Xitun District of Taichung, rice ball enthusiasts always mention the rice ball shops on Qinghai Road, Hankou Road, and Shaanxi Road, but "My Home Rice Ball" is the hidden gem highly recommended by local residents. Although its online presence is not strong, the rice balls here are addictive once you try them. You can choose from three types of rice (purple rice, white rice, and germ rice) and pair them with over a dozen ingredients, along with a special little dried anchovy chili sauce, allowing for a custom combination to create your very own delicious rice ball.
While people usually prefer to buy rice balls on Hankou Road and Shaanxi Road, I have always overlooked this hidden little shop. I hope that friends who know about this little shop can share more, so that more people can discover the deliciousness here!
The name "My Home Rice Ball" may be ordinary, but it attracts many regular customers. Besides rice balls, they also offer handmade soy milk and rice milk, providing customers with more options.
First-time customers may feel confused by the pairing choices, as there are three options for rice, and you can even mix them, such as white rice combined with purple rice, enhancing the visual appeal of the rice ball.
You can choose five ingredients for each rice ball, and the variety of materials at the counter can create a dilemma in selection. Although the space is small, the little stall always maintains cleanliness and hygiene, ensuring a comfortable experience.
For those who enjoy spicy food, consider adding some dried anchovies with chili; the flavor will be even better. This time, I chose a mixed rice ball of white rice and purple rice, which is quite substantial, almost requiring both hands to hold it.
The cooking of the rice is very meticulous, with each grain distinct, exhibiting moderate stickiness and moisture, allowing you to select the ingredients according to your taste, forming a personalized rice ball.
I personally prefer pork floss, seaweed, braised eggs, fried dough sticks, and vegetarian ingredients, topped off with the dried anchovy chili. It is not greasy, and it has a delightful salty flavor combined with the aroma and spiciness of seaweed, leaving me feeling very satisfied after eating.
Most of the customers here are elders from the neighborhood bringing their grandchildren, and the sight of children selecting ingredients at the counter is a unique scene.
