Tōrō Market is located in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. It takes only 5 minutes by boat from Mojiko Port in Kitakyushu City. This market is famous for its fresh fugu sashimi and sushi. There are many attractions around the market, making it perfect for a full day's itinerary. You can buy seafood at Tōrō Market, and there are plenty of spots to take photos with fugu. It is recommended to visit on weekdays for fewer crowds, while weekends can be very bustling. The market's operating hours are from 5 AM to 3 PM on weekdays, and from 8 AM to 3 PM on Sundays and holidays.
If you come to Mojiko in Kitakyushu City, I highly recommend taking a 5-minute ferry to Takashu Market, where you can enjoy fresh fugu sashimi and sushi. My friends even boldly ate a whole box of sea urchin with chopsticks, which was truly amazing! Additionally, you can also visit other attractions in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and you can fill your itinerary for an entire day in this area!
From Shimonoseki Station, take the Yame Bus, and you can get off at Takaru Station, which is about a 3-minute walk to Takashu Market.
At the ferry terminal in Mojiko, you can purchase tickets to Shimonoseki or Sakurajima, and board the ferry.
Today's ferry service will only operate towards Shimonoseki (Takaru); passengers can buy tickets using the manual ticket machines or automatic vending machines, with adult tickets costing 400 yen and children's tickets costing 200 yen.
The ferry is not large, divided into two levels; friends who enjoy the sea breeze can go to the upper deck to enjoy the pleasant sea breeze.
It takes only 5 minutes from Shimonoseki to Takaru, the ferry is quite fast, and the seats are very spacious.
Takashu Market is located near the port, offering beautiful ocean views and is an excellent dining spot. It is worth mentioning that the fugu cuisine here is very famous, and along the way, there are several spots where you can take photos with cute fugu, so don't forget to snap some pictures for memories.
On weekdays, Takashu Market is relatively quiet, but it becomes very lively from Friday to Sunday and on holidays, especially the famous Sushi Street attracts a large number of tourists.
Here, you can taste fresh seafood caught by local fishermen, such as fugu, sea bream, and yellowtail. Since I usually visit on weekdays, I have yet to capture the spectacular crowds up to now.
The scale of Sushi Street on Fridays may be smaller, but the presentation of fugu sashimi is beautiful and can satisfy everyone's needs. At Takashu Market, you do not need a specially recommended store because all the sashimi here is fresh and delicious, and the prices are quite reasonable, so be sure to indulge a little more during your visit!
If you don't happen to encounter Sushi Street on Friday, Saturday or holidays, the rotating sushi store "Kaiten Karato" on the second floor is also very famous and comes highly recommended.
The address of Takashu Market is: 5-50 Karato-cho, Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, phone number 083-231-0001. The market opens from 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM from Monday to Saturday, and from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Sundays and national holidays, although the operating hours of individual shops may vary.
