According to a report by Reuters, Dutch semiconductor equipment giant ASML announced on Wednesday (9th) that it will no longer apply the company's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) performance metrics to its employees in the United States to comply with U.S. regulations, while maintaining established goals in other markets unchanged.

ASML, the world's largest chip manufacturing equipment supplier, stated through an email response to Reuters that “ASML's policy has always been to hire the most qualified individuals, and we will continue to base hiring on professional capability and performance.” The spokesperson further indicated that “KPI and goals related to diversity and inclusion will not apply to employees in the United States.” This change is a response to an executive order signed by current U.S. President Donald Trump, which targets corporate diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, arguing that such policies can lead to “reverse discrimination” and “suppress genuine merit-based advancement.”

Recently, several European companies have taken action to adjust their DEI programs to avoid potential penalties and litigation risks. According to ASML's latest annual report, the company currently has a total global workforce of 44,027 employees, of which about 19% (8,480 people) work in the United States. The company's original DEI goals included raising the percentage of female senior executives to 14% by 2026, as well as achieving a target of 24% female representation among new hires and promotions by 2025.

ASML emphasized that markets outside the United States are not affected by this executive order, and that their DEI goals and policies at other locations, including those in the Netherlands, will continue to be promoted without significant changes.
