The West Lake Pomelo Flower Art Festival in 114th Year will grandly open on April 5th, with flowers blooming at every step of the hiking trail, filling West Lake with the fragrance of pomelos.
West Lake Township in Miaoli County quietly sits on the western side of the Miaoli hills, boasting its unique natural beauty, including dense forests, clear streams, and fertile fields, making it a precious place of cultural heritage. Traditional agriculture in West Lake mainly focuses on rice, however, half a century ago, Hudu Village started extensive cultivation of pomelos. With the promotion by the West Lake Township Office and the Agricultural Association, the "Pomelo Flower Art Festival" has become another unique tourism activity in the area. Every year, March and April are the seasons when pomelo flowers bloom, and the sweet fragrance of pomelo blossoms spreads throughout West Lake, making it a perfect time for people to enjoy the small joys of life during this warm and blooming spring days.
To attract more tourists, the West Lake Township Office and Agricultural Association held a kickoff ceremony yesterday. The weather was sunny, and the fragrant aroma of pomelo flowers filled the mountains. This year's event is themed "Every Step Brings Flowers, Let the Pomelo Aroma Flow," and a series of activities are scheduled on April 5th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in West Lake Township, including Hakka Cultural Tours (circular township bus), Pomelo Flower Hiking Fun, Pomelo Flower Music Feast, Hakka Market, Parent-Child DIY, and Pomelo Flower Treasure Hunt.
On the day of the event, five minibuses will be provided to transport tourists around West Lake Township in a circular manner. Along the way, guides will introduce local特色 arts and cultural spots and leisure farms, allowing tourists to experience the slow-paced lifestyle of the Hakka community. Given the vast area of West Lake Township and the winding mountain roads, using medium-sized buses for transportation is convenient. The township bus service for previous pomelo flower festivals has been well received, and this year, designated stops include Yifang Farm, Jinlong Kiln, Wu Zhuoliu Arts and Cultural Center, Longshou Bridge, and the West Lake Township Agricultural Association Community Shop, creating a unique travel network for tourists.
Participants can purchase bus tickets starting at 8:30 a.m. on the day at the main station of the Hudu Multi-Functional Activity Center, with each ticket priced at one hundred dollars and accompanied by a voucher worth sixty dollars. Of course, the "Pomelo Flower Hiking Fun" activity closest to the pomelo flowers should not be missed; interested individuals can pick up a challenge card at the main venue service desk starting at 8:30 a.m. on that day, limited to one card per participant, while supplies last. Along the route, five challenge game stations will be set up, and upon passing, participants can receive stamps. Collecting five stamps allows participants to exchange for a sixty-dollar cash voucher at the main venue and participate in a lucky draw or receive tree seedlings and other prizes; cash vouchers can be used in designated sales areas.
The "Pomelo Flower Music Feast" at the main venue stage will feature multiple performers presenting wonderful Hakka folk song performances, with music performances by the Xu Hong Eight-Note Ensemble held at the parking lot of Huazih Mountain. The fragrance of flowers accompanies the music, allowing participating hikers to "appreciate the beauty of nature with every step." While hiking on Pomelo Mountain or visiting local attractions, be on the lookout for the presence of pomelo flowers, search for hidden pomelo flower cards, and exchange them for small gifts for free at the main venue service desk, while supplies last.
