Recently, the controversy surrounding the "water meter check" has been escalating in Hualien, with the prosecutor's office launching actions under the pretext of investigating the case, bringing back several public officials and witnesses. The Hualien County Party of the Kuomintang criticized the Democratic Progressive Party for using state machinery to suppress grassroots officials. The Hualien District Prosecutor's Office also emphasized the importance of remaining objective and neutral during the investigation and urged the public not to speculate indiscriminately in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation.

On the 3rd of last month, civil groups in Hualien submitted recall petition forms to the Central Election Commission. Subsequently, many residents reported that personnel wearing county government vests visited them to verify the authenticity of the petitions, raising suspicions of "water meter check" behavior. Based on the reported information, the Hualien prosecutors immediately launched an investigation and conducted searches in various locations.

As the recall activities intensified, prosecutors across the country carried out a series of actions. The Hualien County Party of the Kuomintang issued the strongest condemnation of the actions taken by prosecutors and warned that this move is an affront to democracy. The spokesperson emphasized that verifying the authenticity of recall petitions is the responsibility of the local electoral commission, and the Democratic Progressive Party's actions will only doom Taiwan's democratic system and pose threats to grassroots public officials.
