The Legislative Yuan convened today (25th) for a session, where the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) demanded Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu to conduct a thorough investigation and boycott proceedings following the incident involving New Party Deputy Secretary-General You Zhi-bin. The meeting was originally scheduled to end at 6 PM, but the Kuomintang (KMT) did not vote to extend the meeting during the session, while the DPP argued that the meeting was invalid. Ultimately, the KMT moved forward with the second reading of two referendums, "Anti-Martial Law" and "Anti-Abolishment of the Death Penalty,” with the former receiving 52 votes in support and the latter passing with 55 votes. During the process, DPP lawmakers protested and withdrew from the venue, allowing the KMT to take the opportunity to occupy the podium, resulting in a conflict.
The Legislative Yuan convened today (25th) for a session. Due to the actions of New Party Deputy Secretary-General 游智彬 in the chamber on the 21st, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) caucus demanded a thorough investigation and condemnation by Legislative Yuan Chairman 韓國瑜, which has led to a disruption of proceedings since then. The scheduled meeting was set to last until 6 PM, but the Kuomintang (KMT) and the People First Party did not propose an extension of the meeting during this time, while the DPP caucus claimed the meeting was invalid. After one and a half hours of convening their members, the KMT directly submitted two referendum proposals for a second reading, including "Oppose Martial Law" and "Oppose the Death Penalty," which were criticized by the DPP as being empty referendums. Although the Legislative Yuan's session continued to be disrupted, the original meeting time ended at 6 PM, with DPP legislators gradually leaving the podium and the chamber, allowing the KMT caucus to occupy the podium. Around 7:25 PM, 韓國瑜 entered the chamber and announced the opening of the meeting, preparing to proceed with the referendums in coordination with the KMT and the People First Party. DPP caucus secretary-general 吳思瑤, secretary 陈培瑜, as well as DPP legislators 沈伯洋, 郭國文, and others held signs stating "Meeting Invalid" to express their stance, while DPP caucus leader 柯建銘 shouted 韩國瑜's real name and broke a cane. KMT legislator 徐巧芯 was attacked and injured. Ultimately, the first proposal "Oppose the Death Penalty" passed with 52 votes in favor and 0 against, and the second proposal "Oppose Martial Law" also passed to a second reading with 55 votes in favor and 0 against.
