The Kinmen County Government has announced that, following the detection of the African swine fever virus in the first drifted pig carcass this year, all pigs and related products from the Kinmen region are banned from being exported to Taiwan’s main island and other offshore islands from now until June 23. This measure is aimed at preventing the spread of the African swine fever virus and ensuring the safety of pork throughout Taiwan.

According to the announcement, the ban covers pigs, carcasses, internal organs, fresh and processed pork products from the Kinmen area. However, if the producer and product list has passed the risk assessment by the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ), they are exempt from this ban.

The Kinmen County Government has emphasized that, after evaluation by the Ministry of Agriculture, a list of producers remains valid including companies such as Shengzu Co., Ltd. and Liangjin Industrial Co., Ltd., along with several others. These products, once inspected and confirmed to be without risk, will continue to be sold.

In addition, the list includes producers of processed snacks such as meat floss and fresh pastries like those from Tianxia Rice Cake Factory and Xixiangfeng Bakery. Furthermore, frozen cooked beef and lamb products are also part of the allowed supply during this ban period, which totals 16 producers capable of maintaining market supply.

The Kinmen epidemic prevention office urges local pig farmers and related businesses to actively cooperate with government epidemic prevention measures, improving and strengthening hygiene management at farms. This includes changing into dedicated footwear and clothing, regularly cleaning and disinfecting, and other practices. Only by enhancing preventive awareness can the risk of African swine fever be minimized.

In the face of this globally significant animal infectious disease, the Kinmen County Government calls on all citizens to raise their awareness of epidemic prevention and ensure that all preventive measures are thoroughly implemented to prevent the entry of African swine fever virus into Taiwan's inland areas.
