Recently, Taiwan's Vice President Lai Ching-te announced the launch of a series of lectures titled 'Ten Lectures on National Unity', aimed at emphasizing the importance of national unity and sovereignty. In the inaugural lecture, Lai cited the San Francisco Treaty, emphasizing that China's claims over Taiwan lack legal validity and pointing out that the treaty clearly states Taiwan was never returned under China’s jurisdiction after World War II.

Lai stated that in light of the changing international dynamics and escalating tensions in cross-strait relations, Taiwan must ensure its citizens understand its historical background and legal status under international law. He mentioned that the San Francisco Treaty, signed in 1951, did not include China as a signatory, which effectively means Taiwan is legally not part of China.

During the meeting, Lai stressed that national unity is the foundation for facing external threats and challenges, and that the 'Ten Lectures on National Unity' initiative aims to enhance public understanding of national sovereignty and security through open discussions and information sharing. He pointed out that the security situation in Asia, particularly around the Taiwan Strait, is increasingly tense, and Taiwan needs to strengthen its self-defense capabilities while promoting international cooperation to protect its safety and interests.

Additionally, Lai mentioned that despite the continuous threats from China, the people of Taiwan will firmly defend their freedoms and democracy. He urged the public to participate in this movement to ensure that Taiwan’s future is not subjected to external pressures.

The 'Ten Lectures on National Unity' series will continue, featuring a variety of discussion topics and formats to engage different sectors of society actively. Lai hopes these lectures will help citizens gain a clearer understanding of Taiwan’s role and status in the international arena.
