On September 9, she defeated Ukraine's Yana Pesotska with a score of 3-1. This match marks the first encounter between Cheng and Pesotska in nine years, showcasing Cheng's exceptional competitive spirit.
In the opening game, Cheng demonstrated her dominance, leading for most of the match and securing the first game with an 11-7 victory. However, she faced a challenge in the second game, falling behind 1-7 at one point. With timely adjustments, she rallied to level the score and ultimately turned the tide to win the second game 11-9. In the third game, an increase in errors led to a setback, and Cheng dropped the game 9-11. In the crucial fourth game, she regained her control, scoring six consecutive points to take a 6-2 lead, eventually winning the game 11-5 to secure her spot in the Round of 16.
In the next round, Cheng will compete against China's Kuai Man, in an effort to earn a place in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, another Taiwanese player, Kao Cheng-Jui, faced a tough match against former world champion Wang Chuqin, losing 1-3 and failing to advance to the Round of 16. Kao's scores were 2-11, 11-9, 6-11, 3-11, unable to overcome the formidable opponent.
After the singles events, Kao Cheng-Jui will partner with Lin Yun-Ju in the doubles category. They were given a bye in the first round and are expected to face off against the Argentine duo Lorenzo and Huyghe in the next round, aiming for a spot in the men's doubles quarter-finals.
